Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

2 Attachment(s)
Well I got this amp a few years ago as part of a trade with a friend. I never used it and just put it in the basement. Decided to try to find some specs on it, but can't seem to find any. I know Fultron use to make really good tweeters, but I don't know anything about their amps. Any help is appreciated.

There is no model number on it and I can't find specs for it anywhere.

Says right on it 75Wx2, wouldn't use it for anything other than a pair of door speakers/6x9s.

Yeah I know, but I have no idea at what freq, ohm, under rated/over rated. It's hella old school I know. They are now Memphis.

Hook it up and see how it sounds. Has to sound better than a stock system.

Who cares. It's a small 2 channel so you will just be using it for door speakers which are nearly all 4 ohm.

Just because I would like to know. I'll just be using it to run the 6x9s in the back of the Prelude.

yeah fultron used to be memphis untill the 90's. I actually used to be a Memphis car audio exclusive dealer. they have good ----. thats a small amp there buddy. honestly i would use that amp to run full range rear speakers 6x9's or a good pair of 6.5's.

for the ohm load. dont worry about it. just run one speaker to each channel and adjust amp accordingly. make sure when you first turn it on, leave all of the adjustments down. if i was using that for an amp for full range. i would leave the amp adjusted to about half on the freq. and adjust the gain accordingly...... dont adjust the gain too high though. those amps are known to make a pop sound out of the speakers when they turn off/on

----.. i would rock it.

wow that fucker is old school.. yeah it says 75Wx2 but i bet its more like 65Wx2. audio dealers love to scam on that. should work fine on some door speakers.
i would put money on it that it dosent have a built in crossover either.. so keep that in mind.

Yeah I love those amps. Will run everything nice and smooth off one amp. I wish I had the money to be able to fork a ton over on a audio setup. Paying $600+ for a amp is a little out of my range.

So do you still own your own shop? I'm sure you get nog discounts :-*

Damn man that sucks. I use to know a guy who's dad worked at a local stereo shop. I got some hella good deals. I would buy stuff, use it for awhile and sell it for profit. Wish I had just one of the audio setups I use to have. :'(

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

I stuck a 30amp fuse in it (that's all I had, I know should have used smaller) anyways. And connected it to the battery to see if it would power on. It went right into protect mode. I assume this is either by the wrong size fuse or connecting it straight to the batter for the power and remote.

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

Got this just a few min ago:

"Doug-
Looks like you have an older Fultron CA150 (75 x 2) two-channel amp.
It was rated for 75 watts rms x 2 channels at 4 ohms stereo,
and 150 watts rms x 2 channels at 2 ohms stereo, and 300 watts rms x 1 channel
bridged mono at 4 ohms (not stable below 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms bridged mono).

Let us know if you need additional information.
Memphis Car Audio Tech Support"

This little bastard is putting out more power than I thought. My Rockford 900 watt amp was only putting out 300 watts rms running 2 ohm bridged. It might push that MTX 12 I have...... damn I'm tempted to try. Time to bust of the fiberglass. I love me the smell of resin in my car for weeks.

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

shouldn't have went into protect mode. Maybe try power and ground, wait 10 seconds then give remote 12v.

30 amp fuse will be plenty

Van Gogh 800.5 $225 shipped, missing the mounting tabs which aren't even mentioned in the instructions..

That's one nice amp there Bone! I used to love the Memphis equipment (my old 1000D was the ---- until it nuked :P) but if you want to go for the old-school try finding an old Earthquake or Zeus HiFonics HCA :D

Bone1 04-11-2008 04:56 AM

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

speaking my langauge son!

M. Belle to run front mids/tweets, bass channels to some 8" midbass up front, the another mono amp of same footprint to handle the subs.

Simple install, no major flash needed, just BALLS OUT LOUD! Mitek Corp. tried it, but just not enough IMHO.

Mitek = MTX for the newbs.

That is old school? Lol.

I still lust after the old Soundstrean Class A 10.0 and the third gen Orion HCCA 225.

The PPI Art series is pretty old school IMO.

;D

Sorry buddy, the HCCA Earthquake and Zeus HiFonics were kings of the 80's. My old Earthquake was rated at 40wrms@8ohms and 4,000wrms@1ohm...talk about a cheater amp. Nothing like shredding Image Dynamix 15" subs to pieces with that amp. But for all fairness yes, they were in the same heyday as the Soundstream's and Orion's when they were still good.

Ahh Mitek! Now there's a name I haven't heard in years! Now if only MTX would go back to the same quality they used to have then maybe they'd have a decent product again. I think their peak was probably around the time of the 7000 series subs...I'd kill to find a mint set of 7000's these days.

I never really got t a chance to play with any of the Earthquakes of Hifonics. :P

MTX = garbage as of right now.
Soundstream hasn't been good since the arrival of the Runicon series IMO.
Xtant, probably one of my favorites, went down the crapper after JL Audio ripped off their design. Hence why JL Audio makes a killer amp now a days. I want my old 121m back. :(
Orion went down the tubes shortly after their 3rd generation of amplifiers.
Fosgate went to ---- after you could start buying it at Worst Buy.
Lanzar went to ----, but I think they may be making a come back. Not sure about that though. The Opti series were bad ass.

Meh, I really lost a lot of interest in car audio after DEI went around buying everybody up.

I honestly don't know who the heavy hitters are anymore.

I hear ya man, most good old-school brands went to ----. There's not much decent out there any more, I know Earthquake still makes amps but I can't vouch for the newer model's quality. Zapco is always a sure bet if you can afford one, Alpine is fine for an entry level product, but I'd probably say Memphis and JL are probably some of the better one's out right now.

I love how manufacturers are publishing fewer and fewer specs on car audio equipment, hell most consumer grade audio equipment in general.

I love looking at those 1000 watt home theaters in a box and laughing. Seeing THDs in a range from 1-10 % cracks me up. Oh the good ole days of moderately priced audio equipment that could reproduce a signal with a THD in the range of 0.00x %.

Consumer grade equipment with a signal to noise ratio in excess of 100 dB seems to be a rarity anymore. Dynamic range. What the hell is that anymore?

As long as it is flashy and will multi task like a ----------er, nobody seem to be interested anymore.

Dual is the number one selling brand of head unit for fucks sake. Those things are utter garbage.

Jorsher 04-12-2008 12:11 AM

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

Haha, dual, like the walmart crap?

People are for the most part dumb, and just look at numbers. If a amp is rated for 10kW and has 1w RMS, they'll probably buy them by the assload.

BigD 04-12-2008 06:12 PM

Re: Audio Gurus, need some info on this amp

Ok so went and grabbed some wood and latex sealer from the Home Depot. $12 for the entire box. I think I should have went with thicker board, but all they had out was 1/2" MDF. Anyways. Somehow it came out off by a few cm, which pissed me off leaving gaps. Fixed it and sealed it good. Put one of the Audiobahn 12"s in it running off one VC bridged. Sounds freaking great.
