Attn: crx suspension know-it-alls

Is the rack and pinion on a 88 crx si rebuildable. The reason i ask is because one of the sides of the rack(passenger side) when coming out of the housting I can move it up and down. So everytime i hit a bump i hear this rattle plus the steering wheel shakes at all speeds. All input appreciated. If its not know a good place that sells them at a decent price. Thanks :D

Jack your car up and wiggle the wheels. If just the wheel moves its your bearings.Rack and pinion is stering not suspension.

I know about that wiggle checks but one of the sides of the rack I can move the rack up and down, meaning there is excessive clearence. Sooo wanted to know if its rebuildable. :)

u may want to check out some of your bushings...my old car(89 CRX Si)used to shimmy REAL bad when I had to brake real hard...I eventually replaced all the bushings up front, and it cured the problem...

No shimmy when braking, it shakes above 20. I guess ill just buy another rack . Thanks for the input.

wow a lot of dumbass answers to a simple question.. he said he moved the rack by hand and it had play in it. he didnt ask "WHAT COULD BE WRONG???"

Yes the rack is rebuildable, the service manual goes throught the process, however Ive never bothered, just go to a yard and pick one up.

Try to replace the bushings around the bolts that connect the rack to the bulkhead (3 total). If a shimmy is your problem this might be your fix.
