ATTN:abaz your opinion needed
i dont wanna flame the person cause there a friend and i know whats its like to be flamed.
1991 crx si. he wants to rebuild the motor and tranny for some boost. do a ghetto kit. and have 250 hp. i told him with that amount of cash about 3G he can do a swap b16a and have about 1400 left to do a custom kit on the crx. now am i wrong or right for saying that a b16 thats unbuilt would make at least 250 or higher with 10psi that a sohc no vtec would make at 18-19psi. wouldn't he not hit a wall for tuning and solutions to get that sohc no vtec crap motor to hit 12's. what im saying is. the b16 with boost gives him so many more options, ---- a b18a for that matter. he wants to rebuild his si motor. just a non vtec 140K motor. in your opinion. wouldn't you do the swap and boost rather than build and boost?? |

Defintely talk him into doing the engine swap. You will have way more potential with the B16.

I heard that vtec was bad turboed.. is this true? I mean the high lift/duration vtec cammode was bad combined with a turbo.. I can't rember why.
I know theres a ton of b16a turbos out there though. Im going with a built zc turbo b/c its cheap and easy to swap. |

honestly, some people love their single cams, and want to build the ---- out of them.. and thats fine and all, but bottom line a B-series motor as a base platform is better to start off with. You will have way more options later down the road.
Trust me, I spent tons of money on my ZC.. which will be fast, but not nearly as fast as if I was to do it to a B-series and do the exact same ----. Turbo - VTEC, its true, that they dont work well together, but it is a very easy fix, its called dialing out overlap caused by the vtec engaugement. You can do this with a set of adjustable camshaft sproket. Jeff |
