attack of the killer spark plug

well, i cant drive my car right now, but my girlfriend needed to go to the optometrist, so she needed me to drive her there and back. now for the crazy ----. about halfway to the optometrist, we started hear a LOUD banging noise from the motor. i put it in neutral and turned the car off. i pushed the car out of the intersection we were at while a bunch of assholes just honked at us. i got it to a nearby parking lot so that i could pop the hood and investigate. at first, i thought something fell off, or got stuck somewhere in a belt or something. anyways, i had her start the car really quick to see if i could see anything unusual. well... as soon as she started the car, her spark plug from cyl 3 shot out like twenty or thirty feet out of the car :o. i immediately said "oh ----, turn off your car NOW." the plug was all banged up, probably from the impact of hitting the ground. i looked around and luckily i saw a checkers auto parts store down the street. i got a new spark plug, and a spark plug wrench, and had the dude there gap the plug for me. went back and installed the new plug, making sure it was TIGHT. started the car, and it ran normal again. afterwards, i drove it back to checkers to get the other three plugs, and some OIL. i found out she had like NO oil :o. added oil, then changed the other plugs, and then we were back on track for her eye appointment... ;D. does having very little oil increase the pressure in the cylinders enough to make your plug shoot out of your car like that? it would have probably taken the spark plug wire with it if it wasn't attached to the igniter pack or whatever its called (the car doesn't have a distributor). definitely some wierd ----.

No, it won't increase pressure, but it will increase heat, that is until the motor locks up. Look at my post (The Aftermath! aka this blows) to see what happens when you are out of oil

it prolly just wasn't tightened down enough, one of mine came loose once, but i heard it rattling around a little before it was loose enough to shoot out ;)

Re:attack of the killer spark plug

proberly what happened is that the sparkplug was loose and when she started the car the compression of the engine compressing that sylender and the gas explosion proberly shot it out of the hole.

My brother scared the ---- out of me one time. He called me from the car wash and said he had pressure washed his whole car and when he started it the engine sounded terrible and he found a missing spark plug. I thought he hydro'ed the cylinder and blew the plug out, but nope, just loose. The tube seals were all bad and the tubes got hella oil in them. Two other plugs were also getting a few threads loose.

Good story but I think your lucky the plug didn't take the threads along with it.... never had it happen but I know it sucks. I just bought a truck though and checked the plugs, I swear they were all finger tight some ppl are idtiots!
