BTW the 5vz and 3vz V6's bolt up to all the "S" series transverse transmissions. Fab a couple of engine mounts and your done. 5vz manifolds already point towards what would be the transmissions side and bam youve got plenty of room to make an EASY single piece, inexpensive turbo setup using whatever turbo you choose (hopefully NOT a ct26, 20b, etc.) and tune with a megasquirt. Ford edis with the taurus v6 coil pack makes for a quick and simple MS setup.

More on the 5vz: In my humble, semi-experienced toyota opinion is in someways a BETTER engine than the mighty 2jz. You start out with more displacement, in an oversquare engine (odd for a truck motor) and cylinder heads that can easily flow more than most v8's. Solid cast iron block, that physically is 4-5" taller than a 3s, and manifold to manifold is 2" shorter and weighs not much more. Beefy rods, stock forged pistons, and a damn nice crank to boot. The only real weak spots in it are its tendency to pop the laughable stock composite headgaskets, and its less than impressive lowend torque biased cams. Metal HG's with arp hardware, and some decent cams are all that is needed to make a high reving, (supposedly 3s springs are close to the right dimensions as an upgrade) smooth torque engine with a powerband most v8's could only wish to have. Add boost as necessary.

I DO like the idea of the V6.... but I JUST picked up a 1991 Celica GT-S for $100, so I got the engine plus all the stuff to convert it to a 5 speed. I was going to use the 5SFE pistons with the 3SGE head, I read somwhere that it would result in 8.5/1 compression, so I thought that would be pretty boost friendly.

The S series is dated, and there are much better options for making power to move that heavy chassis, but its your project do as you will. Just dont expect much from it.

Put a 3sgte in it you'll be happy! Just gut the car first. Let me know what you need I got it all here in shop. Celica,mr2, supra, 3sgte, 5sfe, 2jz, 7mgte,etc you name it I got it! Any of the toyota line motors will make power it is how you build them that counts. And Rob is right the 3vz and 5vz are great choices too! We have built a few of them in mr2's and they were fun. Good luck either way you go!

Whats the deal with suspention interchangability?
I was hoping that the suspention and brakes from the 5g Celica would all fit. I figured the brakes for sure but the suspention was just being optimistic. I was thinking of making some shorter struts and using KONI race inserts as well.
I was planning on using 4g Celica GT-S seats, as least on the front, since there a blue/blue one at the local wreckers.
