Argh, Overheating...... Please help
 

Ok, heres the deal. 89 D16a1 rebuilt w/ stock internals. Bored .020 over, and the head is milled .020. K26 turbocharger, custom turbo manifold. External w/g With johnny race car FMIC. chipped pm6 running turboedit basemap. 450cc dsm injectors.


I did a compression test, 225 225 220 225. I did a leakdown test. 2% on all 4. H/G isnt blown. The thermostat is gutted. Im running a dual core hf radiator. The water pump is new, but it makes kind of a funny but hardly noticalbe gurgleing noise. Im thinking... maybe its not working right or the impeller is rotating on the shaft.... is that even possible?

also, i keep my fan on consistantly. I put it on the outside of the engine bay to start, than moved it to the inside. I also put in some water wetter. none of this helped. Ive tried it with my ignition retarted slightly and also with it advanced. i dont have a timeing light so i dont know what it is.


It overheats in boost or not. If im going down the interstate it overheats. If i dont go anything above 50 mph or so in 5th gear it stays around 1/2 way up on the guage. as soon as i get on it say after 1 or 2 pulls through 3rd gear its up 2/3ds or higher, and itll get all the way to the red if i dont let of and go really easy on it.


I posted a while ago, i thought i had it fixed. I hadnt drove it much, just around town. So i thought it was ok......

well ive drained and refilled the coolant system like 3 times now. i bled it alot and ran it for a few minutes, bled it again until no air would come out. than i let it run for a few minutes with the cap off....



i dunno. maybe its something like that. hell i hope so.

you gotta let it run for more than a few minnutes with the cap off. its a bitch to get the cooant system filled right.

on mine there is a lil valve where the radiator hoes goes to the head adn i loosen'd the vlave and let it run and kept fillin it up and that seem'd to do the trick for me... give it a shot.. i would also have to say air in the system

Have the car EVER ran good after ur rebuilt?

have u ever try it With the t-stat on? coz it is also possible that without the T-stat coolent is flowing too fast to be cooled down.

i am not sure how u bleed it heres how i would do it
with engine cold, open the radiator cap, switch the temp control to full hot, turn it on and start filling. squeez top and bottom hose while ur at it. Wait unitl the water starts to boil then put the cap back.

also make sure ur cap is good, Compare it to a known good one, make sure it has that little nippe on the end of the cap.

yeah, i ran it n/a for probly 5000 miles. it ran great, i ran it up to 7200 daily, and it ran smooth as hell. it still runs great, no smoke, no noises other that the slightl gurgleing i get every now and than. it would never overheat, unless i let it run w/o the fan on idleing for more than 10 minutes or so. i did that once and noticed it was about 2/3 up and turned the fan on and it fell back to right under halfway.

also, it had about 20 psi of oil pressure at idle and like 65 at 3k.


i ran it with the t-stat in it when i first got the turbo installed, and i left it in when i installed the dualcore delsol radiator and it still overheated. i noticed that the aftermarket autozone thrmostat has a much smaller hole than the oem honda one. but in any case, it overheated with it installed.

the cap i used first off was a .9 bar new one. i switched out to a 1.1 bar (new)and it helps a little.

when u overheat do u overflow? if so, its ur headgasket. i had the same problem.

nah, thats the thing.....


no overflowing no loss of fluid nothing like that. my coolant tank never goes above the full mark and never below the low mark

maybe your temp guage is fucked up, get one that reads #'s
