Scott, nobody has ever run nitrous at the track. EVer.

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

youre supposed to have a blowdown tube if its in the passenger compartment but if you dont have one you can do like i did and drive through tech without the bottle in the car and have someone bring it in to the pits/parking as a spectator and install it after tech. blowdowns tubes are only like 50-60 anyways.

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

Most blow down tubes are hard bent, but you can use #8 SS line with bulkhead fittings. The lines have to be crimped, not the DIY bullshit.

Unhooking four #8 lines every pass is a PITA, but what it takes to go fast :)

Thats two bottles, two supply lines, two dump lines. Every pass.

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

it inconsistent unpredictable and horse power that you have to pay for over and over again.

Plus it causes danger to manifold and floorboards start to exploding out of your car!

If you don't get that joke i don't care. 8)

oh its a joke i really thought nitrous can blow up on you and my chemistry teacher was stupid for saying it wouldn't explode, what would he know cuz i believe hollywood

most people that are draggin their cars at the track have it electronically setup and they use jets for the amount of n2o you want its not just random. so there goes your inconsistent, unless you wanna argue that a turbo spools up exactly the same everytime.

as for paying for horsepower.. do you let your car run out of gas ? no you are paying for horsepower as well.. people buy expensive gas, normal gas, nitrous, plugs, wires, electronics... hmmm over and over... kinda cut short again eh ?

nitrous is a non-flammable gas.

you can make that ---- in a highschool chem lab ftw it took a while to convince the teacher cuz its a drug

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

Real men get blown? This is homemadeturbo, but i have a ls1, not a small honda engine. I cant use stock parts to turbo the car. My car is a v 8, which means two turbos two everything, i doubt many people here could custom turbocharge a ls1. Although a monkey with a wrench could turbo a honda. True story.

Bottom line here, everyone wants the cheapest power with the most output, and nitrous is the way to go for my specific car/engine. 500 dollar nitrous kit for 550hp, or 5000 dollar turbo kit for 600 hp? cmon now.

turboDA6 07-02-2007 10:57 PM

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

but a 500dlr nitrous kit can only go so far. to be continuesly fast, you need to continuesly pay for gas/nitrous refills.

in a way, a turbo kit is like an investment for power in the long run. ehh so you popped your motor, toss another one in and reuse the turbo kit.

melt a motor from nitrous. get a new one, refill the bottle again. and go be fast again.

nitrous causes more heat in the engine and could cause more damage.

turbo generates forced power which could cause damage.

it cost's to be fast. regardless which way you go.

but when your bottle is empty from a 3 day track event. ill keep adding gas and going. while you sit track side waiting til the next track day cuz you ran out of nitrous :l

true, id love to have a turbo kit over nitrous. Turbo owns. I love turbo, but i dont have the money for it at this point. Popping a ls1 is quite costly, around 3500, and putting it in is a whole nother story. Id rather pay to fill the bottle, make 550 hp and use the money i saved on a turbo kit for a 9 in rear end. I'll run 10s on stock bottom longblock with gratuitous amounts of nitrous and a 9 inch rear end. My closing arguement, turbo is better than nitrous, nitrous is cheaper in the short run.

HMTguy 07-02-2007 11:42 PM

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

Your argument for running nitrous over a turbo is that turbos pop motors?

Nitrous has never done that, everrr

ososlohatch 07-02-2007 11:48 PM

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

ive only senn tt v8's ::) :S atleast do a homo rear mount kit or something, and id love to see your car hit 550whp on spray ;)

scottsi 07-02-2007 11:54 PM

Re: Anyone run nitrous at the track?

No. I've blown engines with nitrous and turbo. Nitrous' advantage over turbo is
cheaper - money saved can be used towards a stronger drivetrain
easier to install - can keep ac and the wonderful luxuries of an american car :1
I already have headers and intake, so i wouldnt have to sell those parts.

Turbo's advantage over nitrous is

More power
More fun powerband
Dont have to refill the bottle
COOL JDM BOV SOUND!

In the end, if i had bottomless pockets, of course id go turbo. But with the money I have and make, id rather go with nitrous and save the money to put a built rear end in. Jon i dont believe you've ever worked on a LS1, so i doubt you can comprehend how difficult of a car it is to work on. And how pricey things are for this car. i could buy 3 gsr swaps for the price of one ls1, and i could swap 5 engines in a honda before i could swap one LS1.
Turbo is better than nitrous, but nitrous is the best bang for the buck.

Its quite possible, maybe not on stock cam unless i spray 200-250 shot.
