i used to own a 1997 with 230k miles.. that thing had no end in sight.. only complaint i had was how loud the tires were on the freeway 
if u want to take a quiet trip.. but turning on the music fixed that up right away, gas mileage is awesome. people complain about it being a 4cylinder.. and im like stfu.... its not cool for long trips.. i dont know if it came with better seats than mine or not... but those seats were messed up.. i took it from detroit to sandusky.. .when i got out.. i was fucked up.. acheing back and all the sorts.
but im alot happier with my 94' gmc jimmy

your just gonna end up having too much wear and tear and shitty gas mileage, not to mention the fact that the extra stress could cause ur tranny to go out..
i think since the crv has such a low tourque and hp rating you need to get lower gears..
i got 31's on my gmc jimmy in the rear and 235's in the front
i fucked up my 4x4 a long time ago when i was running a skyjacker lift and some 35's
dude.. honestly.. a crv wont really be a 2000 dollar car that u dont give a ---- about like my jimmy.. i would imagine for a first gen you would pay somewhere near 7k for a decent one
do you really want to be pouring money into it? just get the biggest tires physically possible without a lift kit..and the bottom of a crv isnt really built to take a beating.. imagine a rock tearing up the bottom of your car
or tear out ur fenders and throw in some bushwakers
some cars just arent made for offroading.. or sporting big tires...

anyways, a good buddy of mine had 1 until his g/f wrecked it, motor is now in his 86 si.. But he said he loved it, had great gas mileage and such, I think his was a 97.
