Anyone know how-to remove.
Does anyone know a DYI or home-made way to remove the stupid 115-120MPH Govner (Speedkill) on honda's ECU without getting a chip or the Apxei Rev. Speed meter. I'm using a Si tranny on my JDM DOHC ZC and I'm still in 4th gear ( my tach.'s at about 7,500RPM when it hits in 4th ) ( Basicly I don't use 5th when I race on the high way ). I've raced DSM's and other that keep going like it never ends and I'm stuck at 120. I'm just woundering since you guys here just about think of anything homemade. Thanks

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
my guess would be that you'd have to rechip, since that's where the info is. someone on the board was burning chips already, and as soon as i get everything unpacked at the new house, i'll be back on my chip burner (only a bt more to put together on my custom built one).

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
ZC Redline = 7000? not 7500!!

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
man, why would u race that fast anyway. if you not ahead by 120....u pretty are deamed the loser. im more of a up to 80....and i even think thats stupid. maybe im just a girl, but i think ill keep it that way. but anyway to answer your question....yes you have to get a chip of some kind.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
First off thanks for not dawg'in me and putting me down guys. Alot of forums I've asked this question and I get blasted for it. About why I race that fast. I don't all the time and some times I've been winning but only by alittle and I get beat once I hit 120. The place where we race at in my area is called a "park and ride". Those who don't know what it is it's a long strip of 2-3 lane road/highway that has a jersey in the middle of it where people park and then take a train to where they work. At night when we race it's completely empty road no one except us and cops sometimes and when we race for $$ we race alot longer then a 1/4 mile sometimes. If I'm losing real bad I don't keep going I'll stop cause it's not worht beating up my motor if I know I"m not going to win to answer that question but sometimes it's a close race and you want to win so bad you don't realize how fast you're going. Yes I am rough on my car and if I wasn't a mechanic I'd be walking right now cause I"m always fixing my car but I was just curious as why the Car saftey Assoc. or who ever de-tunes cars and stuff when they bring them here why some cars have alot higher speed limiter's on them then others. but thatnsk again guys for your feedback I'll most likely just buy the Apexi Rev/Speed meter.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
That seems pretty dumb If you hit 100 and you are still winning you pretty much won.. But.. chipping your ecu is about as "homemade" as it gets with that ----..

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
I don't ever race that fast, but I would also like my speed limiter removed. That thing is annoying. I remember the first time I hit it(the first day I had my car) it scared the ---- out of me. I thought I blew it up or something.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
I don't know about honda's but in my tercel all I had to do was cut the vehicle speed sensor that goes to the ecu. You should be able to find it in electrical schematics for your car. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this (perhaps because it's not doable on a honda?)

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
Because that would render the speedo useless.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
the honda vss reads off the speedo. you can pull the pin from the ecu supplying the vss signal, and eliminate the signal as well as the speed limiter, but you will get a cel.
if you have vtec, it will no longer work either, so you will have to wire it to function all the time or use a rpm switch. i had to do this in a pinch one time so i could have some track time without the damB speed limiter. |
Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
heh mine is worse.. D16Z6 Dx Tranny Pm6 ecu

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
My civic D16A6 tops out at 120 @ 5500RPM this is what all D series engine with SI ecu's top out at. either get a chip or an after market ECU no way around it, and about the wire srom the speedo to the ecu, i will try cutting it this summer and see what happens, because in my civic the main cable from the speedo goes directly to the transmission, so if i snip the wire the speedo will still work, i will see if i still get a CEL

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
my b18a i think is suppose to stop at 120, but i had it up to like 128 once? sometimes my rev limiter doen't kick in either, and some times it does? they must have assembled my car on a friday ;D

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
seriously, i always travel down the freeway at 100+ mph. places to see, peolpe to do...

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
the fastest i went in my si was 135 beating a mustang gt ;D ... damn that was scary :-X he was swerving all over the place on one of the turns.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
Damn I didn't think I'd get sooooo much feed back. Since my car is a 91' civic it uses a cable from the speedo to the tran.'s so I will try to just disconnect the wire at the ECU and see what happens if I throw a code or not if so I'll just buy the stupid Rev./Speed meter. I don't want to chip it cause I'll be buying the Zdyne system and I think it'll be alot easier to get rid. of the Meter them a hole ECU. About it scaring you when it hit's the only thing thats gotten me is cause it feels just like your missing cause it cuts fuel and spark I always think my motors starting to act up until I reliaze how fast I"m going. My friends all my fun of me cause when I drive normally I drive slow but when I race it's a whole nother story. Thanks again for all the + feed back.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
me did 136 on the civic Si tank as you guys claim it.
that was scary. them things are more unstable than walking on stilts.... just yank the cable out the tranny.. just remember your not gonna be able to see how fast your going. |
Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
asm, your avator has seriously gone to the limit.. LOL :-X
My only speed limit on my rex is the redline in 5th gear. Around 135 with it a little way in. |
Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
o.k. I disconnected the VSS wire going to the ECU it did disable the Govner but after 15 mintues of drivng it threw a check eng. light. I got to 135mph and was just starting 5th gear when I had to stop cause of a sharp turn. So I came up with a simple solution since I want it disabled but only at certain times but don't want to be driving around with the check engine light on. I took the wire coming out of the engin warness and wired to the power side of a switch and took a wire and ran it from the ACC on the switch to the ECU and grounded the switch now when ever I need to I can't disable it real quick by flipping the switch and have it back on.

Re:Anyone know how-to remove.
