Anyone know anything about thes pistons? YCP =????

i was looking around to get prices on vitara pistons and found this on egay. wondered if anyone knew anything about them. and seeing as thise pistons use floater type wrist pins would this be a good thing or a bad thing? can you still use them with 87 teg rods? or does the wrist pin being floater or snap ring have nothing to do with anything, is it just how they get installed?

Btw anyone know where i can find some vitaras?

Yep, it's the "Yong Chiang Piston" company in Asia. They are the manufacturer of the Vitara Pistons that the HT guy was selling. His user name is "fjt" or something like that. He does not live in the continental US, I forget where he actually is. He is buying the YCP Vitara sets and reselling them together with Hastings rings at a very reasonable price.

We looked into getting these pistons a while back, but could not find a US distributor for the YCP brand. The YCP Pistons were only sold through a reseller who put their own name on them, and they would not sell to us after finding out that we wanted to sell them to Honda owners. Said there was too many liability issues.

I did end up buying some Vitara pistons from our local "Rock Pistons" distributor, and have had a set of TT rods honed out to fit them. The floating pin deal is what makes it necessary to hone the pin end for good fitment.

The YCP pistons are not forged, but do have a coating on them. The Rock Pistons are not forged, and have no coating. Your only real advantage to running these over stock, is lower compression ratio. The only advantage to running these over an SRP/JE type of piston is the much cheaper price.

I had planned on doing a write up on the pros and cons of stock vs vitara vs srp piston setups. Just haven't had the time. "Fjt" is running a Vitara setup, and claims to have good luck with it. He has posts on HT about it. I think he is even a user here...

Dru (bambooseven) claims that the Vitaras sit 2mm below the deck, and that the combustion should happen in the head, not 2mm down, and that this makes the Vitara deal a bad situation. (I had planned on covering this in my write up, by installing a stock piston and rod, in one cyl, and a piston and rod for each of the other combinations in other cylinders, then comparing the heigths and compression ratios. I may still do this....someday...)

Thats it.

You could always try the supra slugs with b16 rods from turbopanda on HT.
