Anyone ever play with thermite?
 

It looks quite destructive, and from i've read i could just goto the paint store and pickup the supplies needed. Its gonna be one hell of a 4th of july ill tell you what. O0

You need aluminum shavings/powder and rust.

Easy to make, cheap to buy, hard to get lighted and burns extremely quick/bright/hot.

Get a magnesium ribbon to light it. You can light that with a regular lighter, then the magnesium burns hot enough to ignite the thermite.

sparklers wok good for lighting it also. that ---- will burn through alot of things before it stops.

I'd probably try that next time, the magnesium ribbon works but it's a pain in the ass. Not only do you have to hold the lighter on it for a while to get it started, but it'll blow out easily and when it gets to the thermite it'll go out before igniting the thermite. Only way we could get the ribbon to light the thermite was to coil it up and press the coiled part into the thermite, and even then it was hit or miss.

Or, you can just buy it online for cheap. Rig up some iron and battery in some salt water.

Its not 400 mesh but I would think it would still mix just as well.

Yeah to the point where I'm sitting there by the container when it finally catches hearing Jorsher yelling as he's running I better MOVE. Get to my feet to see ---- start popping around.

Make some HMSB (Homemade smoke bombs) All you need is sugar and potassium nitrate (stump remover, Lows has it for $5). Melt, let harder, and light. Add gunpowder for that extra umph. Not recommended for your moms kitchen.

Not exactly. For every 1gram of Aluminum you need 2grams of Iron oxide. Mix up REALLY well in a plastic baggie. Pour into a container and light with a sparkler or magnesium strip. RUN LIKE HELL.

I bet the homemade smoke bombs would act as a good fuse...they burn easily, and get hot enough to burn an aluminum can to dust. Might be hot enough.

Here, you guys can watch a 4 year old video from when Doug blew up my mother's kitchen, that's me escaping with the big head.

As Doug said, sugar + potassium nitrate/nitrite, melt on a stove.

Don't add broken up firecrackers/bottlerockets or leave it sit unstirred for too long, these are the results.

Later I'll add the video of a properly made smokebomb we did.

Ooh, and one of thermite going off.

Yeah not much to see since you couldn't breathe. The coolest part is when we noticed a glow and ran in to see flames shoot to the roof. Too bad it wasn't recording then.
