Re: anybody know what is used for ford (lightning) engine management?
I've used many different software/hardware packages to tune ford i.e. twEECer, hptuners, diablosport, SCT
and by far I would rather use the SCT software on all the fords I get in, I tune 3-4 mustangs a week using their software its a great product.
I don't do alot of lightnings (only about 4-5 in the past 4 years) but I know a place that will help you out alot Troyer performance , they do a ton of those trucks , Mike is a really smart dude hes helped me out a few times on those trucks
check out their site http://www.troyerperformance.com

www.nloc.net is by far the best source of info and writeups for Lightnings.
Engine management I'd recommend Xcal II or III w/ a B2400 or B2800 90mm MAF
But if he already has Diablo then a MAF extender is a must, get a Diablo MAFia.
When you make any significant power gains (i.e. whipple/KB) the stock MAF will ---- you. I'm not sure where he's at power wise, but you have to read the voltage on your MAF and see if it even come CLOSE to maxing out, get the extender.
Btw, I didn't see a year model, but if he has the "4 thread heads" you're in for a suprise... the spark plugs like to blow out of the cylinders, usually taking the head threads with them. Fun Fun.
Also, just a side note. Make sure it has all the factory recalls... the cruise control has been recalled for incidents of catching fire.
But these trucks are a ---- ton of fun to drive. I wish gas was cheaper, my truck is getting retired to be used occasionally on weekends and hauling trailers.
