anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

i figured i'd ask one of you guys before i go somewhere else and make myself look like an ass lol. i can't get this damn swingarm/motor to frame bolt out its frozen, but i dont want to torch it because theres dust seals and bearings in the swing arm. i've already pounded the ---- out of it with my 3lb hammer anybody know an easier less destructive way? i've already broken enough ---- on this bike

are you sure you got the nut off the end of it??

that thing shouldnt be frozen, unless this bike is a ------- piece.]

even then ive never seen one freeze. take some pics, i wanna see

man up, get yourself a 3 ft pipe.

* hotrex is right, throw the thing in the dumpster :y

naw, if you got the nut off, go to the other side and there should be the head of the bolt.. put a ratchet on it and turn it out while pulling.. it should come out, (also never seen this) don't leave your ---- out in the snow.

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

on my old kx i had that happen now that i think of it.

the frame tabs that hold the shaft were rounded so it just spun.

get your ass in there with some needle nose vise grips and put some muscle into .,

just play some fiddy cents and go "gangsta" on it.

try some swear words and yelling, that seems to work fo rme

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

it doesnt even budge and the nut is off, its not spinning at all and the bike is not junk yet its a 01 cr80. i need to get this last bolt out so i can rebuild the bottom end. 50 isn't too motivating i have a better chance of freein that bitch up listen to eye of the tiger lol

also you linkage should be the first thing to come apart when doing a swingarm r&r, besides the rear wheel.

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

just cause its a 01 doesnt mean it cant be junk, ive seen plenty of 05's ready for the heap.

sounds like the bearings are so far gone that the shaft has rusted solid to the shot races.

sell the bike to me for 200 dollars.

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

did you take the rear wheel off and everything, or are you just going after the pivot bolt itself?

91efate 12-01-2005 07:38 AM

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

i just need to get out the pivot bolt that goes through frame/swing arm/motor. the tire is coming off too though to change the sprocket and rotor.

Re: anybody familiar with dirtbikes? CR80 swing arm bolt frozen

used to happen alot on my old yz cause around here theres alot of sand and it gets in there and other gunk and ----, i used to use a 3/8ths long extention and take the nut off and hit that a few times popped right out. and ---- all that work and bs putting the bearing in, get a socket equivilent in size of the outer race on the bearing, and gently tap that ---- in, theres not much on a 2 stroke enigne and bike itself you cannot do in your own back yard.

the shock is putting pressure on the swingarm, undo the linkage like i said before and try again, i'm willing to bet thats your problem. once you relieve that pressure, the pivot bolt will come right out.
