Any you guys play stand up bass?
 

Looking into buying one and have no idea where to start. I have been playing bass since I was 20 so Im subpar

This is HMT Chris. Make a washtub bass. Find washbin, broom handle and a piece of rope. You'd be surprised that it can actually sound pretty damn good and cool.

i have always wanted to try a stand-up bass. i have a fretless bass and when i play on a regular basis, i can play that so i would assume the stand-up is sorta similar. me and the woman bought a cello, i thought it would be easier than it is, but its pretty tough

Im willing too learn. Music for me I know is something I will continue to play/enjoy to the fullest till the day I die so if it takes me till Im an old man to get down on it Im cool with that.

Do you play with your pinky? The upright is cool especially if you're into playing blues/jazz.

I'd say go to your local school and see if they're selling any of their old ones.

Pinky action hellz ya. Im actually a pretty good if I dont say so myself at bass. Im pretty well rounded I play with fingers and pick.

its funny you made this thread cause my bro bought me a book about basses. I been wanting to fix my old Axe and start playing again. the nut on the neck is broke so i have to buy a new nut. playing music is right up ther with working on cars. its great!h

I broke a cdm bass the other week. Went rockstar on it. Sounded good for about a month.

i been playing bass for a few years now. self taught, so yeah i play crappy. also play the guitar, bad as well. and i have drums...and guess what. i cant play those very well either. lol. i think i play the bass best since i actually play it more.

Dude talk to Hugh cause he quit his normal job and now all he does is fixing music equipment and setting up guitars and basses. He finished his guitar building school that he was going to in north Hollywood. Hell the other day his buddy in The Midnight Project hooked him and got him setting up instruments at some studio. He's mad pro now.

chris my grandfather, his borthers and afew of their son's are in the bluegrass hall of fame. uncle plays stand-up.

i play electric bass, and fidle around with upright bass.. Its alot harder, and i personaly dont like it..

I cant seem to get the loud tone out of it unless i use a bow.. and i cant seem to get my fingers to move fast enough up and down the frets..

but i do want to make a banjo bass.. Electric bass neck, bass drum/ some fabricaiton..... and thats a bad ass insturment

I used to have an Ampeg Baby bass, which was one of the first stand-up electric basses. It was also a 5 string, pretty rare. I sold it 9 years ago for $1800 on ebay. I can't imagine what its worth now with the vintage guitar market going apeshit like it is... Moving a stand up around must be a huge bitch.
