Re: Any of you guys ever grapple with your buddies?
im on my university's boxing team. after practice we have a few guys that do mma as well as myself. im 159 5'8" and box at 147(welterweight in college weight classes) and can handle most of the 185 guys no problem at all when it gets to the ground.
P.S.- i got a fight against us naval academy coming up, ill post a vid after the fight in early march
ninja edit: crxmatt: that fight with gomi was awesome. im tired of people ranking gomi #1. sherk, bj, and probably even stevenson would beat him

salesmonkey, we get a suicide attempt about once a week cuz we have the crisis management center here. thats where we hold all the suicidal ones. but naked in A room with nothing but a metal bed and a suicide blanket. and we keep it about 60 degrees in there so all they want to do is stay wrapped up in there blanket.

I agree about Gomi. I have no idea why he's ranked number one when he hasn't fought in a year, his last fight was a brutal pwning, and before that Marcus Aurelio went the distance and lost by a split but triangled Gomi in their previous fight. He's not that good, and Huerta, Guida, Melendez, BJ, Stevenson would all molest him at this point in time.
Btw I had another BJJ practice tonight and I taught the guys a little something. Say I have a guy in my guard and I'm trying to triangle him. Well if he defends and wraps his inside arm around my leg I can make a quick transition to omoplata that
s super effective.

Re: Any of you guys ever grapple with your buddies?
Well they're all technically instant tapouts if done correctly. Omoplata is like second nature to me, like how triangle is second nature to guys with long legs. Gogoplata we haven't practiced because it's an air choke and those are no-go for a university club at this point. I don't find the omoplata so risky because I have one of his arms trapped and I still have my 2 free hands. Even if he rolls out I've got his arm trapped for armbar etc. I <3 omoplata as well as figure four armbar with the guy in my triangle. My sweeps are pretty sick too. I love the one sweep we learned where the guy's in my guard and then I wrap underneath one of his armpits all the way to the back of his head with one hand, hook the back of his knee with my other, then push my hips to the sky and land in mount.
Armbars from the bottom with the guy teetering above you are awesome too. I do my best work off the bottom, it's when I get to the top that I kind of choke and just sit there with a position.

Yeah I don't even try to sub from mount unless it's an arm triangle variation or armbar since it's so easy to sweep. In fact I'd prefer side control to mount most times because I feel more grounded that way.
