Any Vonage users?

We have Vonage and the router (Motorola VT2442) has to be reset about every 10-30 min for it to work. It's starting to get really annoying, and the retarded foreigners they have working their customer service just run you around in circles doing crap that has nothing to do with the problem.

Anyone else having issues?

get a real router.

Re: Any Vonage users?

Get comcast CDV. Seriously, vonage sucks compared to CDV. Calls I get from CDV, I can't tell they're using VOIP. Calls from Vonage, I can. The vonage routers suck too.

Comcast CDV works better because it has it's own frequency on the cable for sending data through, and only travels on Comcasts private network (until it gets sent to the phone network). Vonage just uses regular TCP/IP crap, packets are lost or don't arrive when they should, latency issues, etc. You'll get a EMTA that is wired into your homes phone lines, so you can use a regular phone, and the EMTA has an ethernet port to go out to your router. Also, has a built in battery backup, so if power is off you can still use the phone (or internet) for up to 8 hours.

I don't think it's available here. Go ahead and check 35633

Re: Any Vonage users?

Didn't think of that. No its not available yet but they've been doing a shitton of rewiring for the "CDV certification" so they can release it there. Shouldn't be too long.

Re: Any Vonage users?

I'm thinking about snatching a router to put before the vonage router. I could careless about the phones connection I don't use the normal phone anyways.

i agree with this .....but the battery backup doesn't do ---- for your internet....just your phones....i install 5 to 6 emta's a day....it works good.....really like the rca ones over the arris

Ah yeah, that was based on what I heard around here, not from personal experience. I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't live in a comcast area, so I don't get to take advantage of the free everything. Haven't got to try any of the stuff myself, but I know the people I've talked to using CDV were very clear and the vonage ones were choppy.

Re: Any Vonage users?

Do you really mean every 10 minutes? If you're exaggerating a little, I might know the solution. I know on linksys routers, with factory firmwares, they keep the connections active for a few days. So, if you use peer-to-peer shiz, like I know you do, it'll get raped with open connections and have to be reset every now and then. You would need to change settings for "leave connections active for" whatever.

Unfortunately, I've never used a vonage router and have no clue what their config pages look like.

I mean like every 10 min for real. Now it won't even connect. I'm jacked straight into the modem :X It just started doing this so I think the router is about to take a ----. Just reaffirms my hatred of Motorola products.

Sounds like it. Motorola modems are decent, never used their routers though. Motorola surfboards were the first modems people were uncapping.

Call vonage up and tell them your router is taking a ----

Re: Any Vonage users?

Yeah tried twice and they "adjust some settings" and have to give them awhile to take effect. Damn Indians don't listen.

Re: Any Vonage users?

Called back again and the guy told me that Lynksys products aren't good. :l Not sure what he would recommend. Anyways, he got to looking and said someone in lower level tech support changed some settings. He did a restore and it works fine. Go figure the person to solve the problem was actually and American and not the Indians I have been getting.

Re: Any Vonage users?

Yeah, Cisco/Linksys is probably only the largest supplier of networking equipment, they must suck ::) They probably just say that because they use motorola. The only bad thing about some of the linksys routers is they keep connections active too long, but that can be fixed.

XBox Live and Microsoft's support is also all foreign. They piss me off because I call about a problem, they don't understand what the hell I'm asking, then give me a "solution" entirely unrelated to the problem. I get pissed at the fuckers for not understanding me after I say something 5 different ways, but they don't even understand I'm pissed and keep spewing their happy little foreign accented bullshit.

Re: Any Vonage users?

That's the problem I was having. They kept having me do stuff that had nothing to do with what I told them the problem was. The guy was telling me it was probably a comcast issue giving me bad connection. Yet jacked into the modem it ran great and actually gave me some really good up/download speeds on uTorrent.

Re: Any Vonage users?

And now it's fucked again. Having to do ip renewals and dns flushes to get it to semi work. Still slow as ----. New router here I come. What nog has a cheap wireless one?

I really can't see the purpose of this stuff unless you are like 50 and can't let go of having a home phone. I think I am past having a home phone ever in my life.

It's not for me. My mom and bro use it. I just use my cell.

Yeah, flushing the DNS and IP renewals will only affect your computer and won't do ---- to the router. Hell, you're probably getting the same IP and DNS anyway.

That's funny. And vonage sucks.
