So I'm looking to put my first kit together.. Some say $1000 is to much some say not.. If it is, then any suggestions / pointers where to get the ---- cheep? ---- do you have any suggestions period?

Put on your flame suit, bud.

$1000 is plenty enough for your run of the mill turbo setup. Check the projects. Read the forced induction section religiously, and make sure to read all of the stickies.
