Another Project Car

Well, I had made a post a while ago about an EG that I picked up. I had traded some misc stuff that I had laying around and got this.

http://www.allmyshiznit.com/images/e...h/eghatch9.jpg

It was Z6 swapped and needed to be wired for vtec and 4 wire O2. I did some general maintenance on it, bought some partial quarter replacements (but did not install them), put in a new clutch and new intake manifold gasket and sold it for $2500 :P

I then bought this at a local salvage yard:

http://www.allmyshiznit.com/images/e...110smaller.jpg

I believe the previous owner hit a deer as there was deer hair stuck in the bumper and there was blood and fat all over the underside of the car

http://www.allmyshiznit.com/images/e...097smaller.jpg

I put on a new OEM core support, got some used stock headlights and put a new OEM bumper cover on it and ended up with this:

http://www.allmyshiznit.com/images/e...169smaller.jpg

I paid $1600 for the car from the salvage yard and it took about $520 in parts to put it back together body wise and have a new windhshield installed. I had to replace an O2 sensor and it will need a new radiator because the old one is crooked and has the mounting tab broke off, but it does not leak. It won't get new airbags, I made a replacement cover for the passenger side one, might go with the tray later and I will replace the steering wheel with a Momo wheel. I guess the beauty of the whole thing is that I had next to nothing into it because I used the money from the sale of the EG to fund it and I had next to nothing into that. I would say that I have about $1k out of pocket into it. I get it inspected next Friday, then I can register it...wohooo.

Yea, I really like EG's but this thing was too clean to pass us. I wish it was white or sllver. It's funny, I brought this home and I had a 4th gen hatch, a 5th gen hatch and a 6th gen hatch at the same time and they were all red :-\ Should be fun though.

Yea, pretty much what he said. I think I am going to keep this hatch for myself, for a while anyway. But my business partner and I are currently looking at an 03 Civic EX 5 spd. It is hit in the right front, but really isn't that bad. We are thinking we can probably make around $4k on turning that car over.

Yea, the passenger side air bag is BIG. Now you can see why they take out the windshield 90% of the time. The driver side had a nice circle stitched into it...the face plant section, lol. I had already cut it out before pictures were taken.

When you get it inspected, will they care that there's no airbags?

After a vehicle has been sconsidered a total loss, it is issued a salvage title. With a salvage title, it is not eligible for registration anymore. However, if you decide to "rebuild" the vehicle for road use again, you have to go through an inspection with the state highway patrol.

No, they will not care that there are no airbags in the vehicle. There is no law stating that a "supplemental restraint system" has to be replaced once it has been deployed due to a reported accident. At least in Ohio anyway. The inspection is not actually to determine the road worthiness of a rebuilt vehicle....it is to determine if it was rebuilt legitamately using parts that were not stolen. You must take receipts with you for all major replacement parts. Any parts that were purchased through "casual sale" must have a notorized receipt and you must provide the VIN number of the vehicle that they were removed from. Items that have a fair market value of less than $100 are not scrutinized as much.

With this particular car, I had to buy a new core support and a new bumper cover which I purchased directly from Honda at a cost of $308. I bought the headlights and an EX gauge cluster from a friend for $80. I bought a new O2 sensor from Autozone for $72 along with a new radiator for $90. So the only things I really need to provide receipts for are the bumper and core support. But I am taking receipts for everything just to be safe.

I really like EG's too, but in this case I chose to sell my EG in order to have a car that was in better shape. I think the EG's have more style, I like the smaller headlights and the overall shape of the car better. Although with a few minor cosmetic touches, like a front and rear lip and some lowering, I think the EK will look pretty good. We'll see, they are not that many of them around my area, so selling it would be easy cause everybody wants to be "different" ::)

Based on the look of things, I consider that money well spent. Good luck with the inspection.

I agree, but I was never a big fan of eyebrows. I did see one set on a car that looked really clean. I also seen a set of lower brows now too. They make the lights look good, but when you get up on it, you obviously can still tell they are eyebrows. Hard to make a decision on that. I might just take the lights apart and paint them black inside so they don't stand out so much :-\

Thanks Noel. Unfortunately, I have not done squat on the 240 in months. The car is in storage, the motor sits in the garage on a stand next to my wifes car which was stored in there during the winter. On top of that I have just not been motivated to work on it.
I am hoping to get the car over to the shop soon so I can work on it during down time. Some kid is suppossed to buy my KA soon, I hope he does because pulling it will hopefully be motivation to get working on the damn car. :-\

word, theres something about black housings that it very classy. on my Solara they make the whole car come together very nicely. black housings on a red car with smoked rear turns. looks good.

you could always mold the eyebrows tho. on ebay i saw these black housings w/ custom eyebrows for a 92-96 prelude where the dude molded the eyebrows with the vents on the side of the lights. ---- was sick as ----, but he didnt wanna sell just the brows. focker.

but def black them bitches.

Re: Another Project Car

Well, I got the car inspected today and it passed ;D I did get pulled over on the way to the inspection because I did not have any license plates on the car. Seeing as how I was like 25 minutes from the inspection station, the cop said..."yea, we get a lot of these through here" He checked the VIN and sent me on my way. Then on the way back, some clown was yelling at me about not having plates on the car and followed me for like 20 miles....we get into the same town that I got pulled over in and he see's a cop on the side of the road and pulls over next to him to "rat me out" but it must have been the same cop cause he never moved, lol. So, I get the car back home, get the title set, get a temp tag and head off to the e-check station. The car was running a little rough and I was concerned, but it passed e-check with no problem. I get it back to the shop and swap in my EX cluster and fire it up to make sure it works.....few seconds later....CEL!! I was thanking god it did not happen when I was at the e-check station. I checked the code, it was for the O2 heater circuit on the 1st O2 sensor....damnit, I just replaced the second one :-\ I reset the code and I put some new OEM plugs, wires, cap and rotor, checked the timing, made a minor adjustment and the car is running a lot smoother. The CEL did come back on again a little later and I cleared it again and it has not come back on the last three times I have driven the car....so maybe I will be lucky, but I doubt it, prolly end up replacing that one too. Anyway, the car is legit now, just have to figure out what to do with her. I think for now, I will just be driving it while I get my ass moving on my SR swap in the 240.

Oh yea....we bought a 2003 Civic EX 5 spd from the salvage yard. It got dropped off today. It's hit in the right front, should be a fairly easy fix. I have an appointment to get it inspected in 2 weeks. Hoping to sell it for around $10k give or take. Anybody looking for a new car ;)

Hey, money talks and in PA it would no longer have a salvage title. I'll even deliver it ;)

NO NO NO....I bought the OEM core support AND bumper cover for $308. ----, I could have gotten a replacement bumper cover for like $48 shipped and the core support for $90 shipped. Yes, the $308 was kinda steep for factory parts, but I was planning on keeping it for myself and wanted the ---- to line up good. I have delt with both OEM and knock off parts. Some of the knock off parts work real well sometimes, sometimes they fit like ----. I did not however buy a OEM windshield. I got the windshield installed with new moldings for $140. I also bought some of those Bosch Icon wiper bladed and I have to say, they are the ----. It has been raining on/off the past two days and those wiper blades work greatl. Yes, they are pricey, but damn I like 'em. :y

that picture makes me want to remove my passengerside airbag in my golf. that fuckers pointed straight at the passenger. and if they have enough force to break the winshield like that then :l

Airbags hurt man. I am sure they save lives, but they hurt. I was in an accident in my Explorer back in 96. I only partially hit the airbag cause I was flying towards the passenger door. ------- bag raped the inside of my arms and one of my nipples was purple for like two weeks. That ---- hurt as bad as the whiplash, strained ligaments in my wrist/thumb and the bruised thighs from hitting the steering wheel. I now wear my seatbelt 99.99% of the time. I was used to the fact tha I mostly drove my EF which has no bags, so I figured why spend the money on them in the EK.
