Default Aluminum flywheels

A friend of mine is a machinist, and has started making aluminum flywheels for toyota supras, and currently is making on for a DOHC ZC. He asked me if there is much demand for D & B series flywheels so I figured why not ask on here.

Is it worth it to make them for our engines or would there be any demand?

Aluminum flywheels are do-able? I woulda thought a clutch would eat them up cause they're soft. Guess not.

They have steel inserts fastend to them for the friction area, and the ring gear.

I would be scared of some disc of doom spinning at 10,000 rpm that some guy fabbed up on his lathe. Ever seen one come apart?

High Roller:

Have you ever seen one fly apart? Or heard about it happening? If you have, could you tell me more information? Obviously he's not some backyard lathe spinnin weekend warrior. He builds a quality product and is currently running one in his own daily driver turbo 7mgte Supra.

But.. If there is a safety issue with aluminum flywheels, then please let me know, he'll build saftey features into the design.
