So you are gonna need some tools.

Take the Master Cylinder out( i had to change mine anyways)and the Alternator comes right out. you know, i jsut changed my alternator on my ef. nice thing was i had a lift. so much easier. took about 15 minutes. i love lifts

to take it out underneath you gotta take out the drivers side axel and half shaft.

Dude, you dont have to take out the master cylinder ::) You dont have to take out the axle ::) Take off your stone shield (plastic stuff) that doesn't do anything anyway and turn your wheel to the left, the alternator will come out. Changed one on a 91 hatch 2 weeks ago. Think smarter not harder. :)

^... you serious? I didnt completely take out my master cylinder but I did unbolt it/move it. I remember there being just a metal piece blocking the alternator from dropping to the ground :-\

Yeah man, it comes out the bottom no problem at all, you can just drop it right underneath or you can just pass it easily along the bottom over to the drivers side, pop out your CAI and pull it up. Thats what I did

Everyone has their own way of taking out alternators, EF's you can sneak them out through the fenderwell, EG's wont sneak out unless the brackets off. The easiest way I have ever down a EG is just take the intake pipe off and slide it around the backside of the engine ontop of the tranny. Taking a axle out is another method, or on B-series its just way tighter and you can loosen the front engine mount and use a 4 foot pry bar and move the engine forward and the alternator will slide out between the rear cross member and axle (as cadracer mentioned) but you really need a lift for that. ;)
I also have seen some people just loosen up the mastercylinder mounting and leave the lines connected so you dont have to bleed the brakes and master. |

i tried 1000 different ways of tryin to get the alt out without takin the half shaft and it was impossible :P might be different on honda cars with more room down there i guess |

We did my friend's EG in less then a half hour. right out the bottom NO problems!!! |

Just take off your valve cover, clean it/sand it, and spray it flat black (wal mart paint). Let it dry, then sand off the Honda symbol and "16 valve". clean her up and she will look good.

When I changed the alternator in my 90 CRX si, I was able to get it out the top without taking off anything at all. You have to turn it a specific way and it's tight against the brake lines, but it comes out and the new one went in the same way.

just use a jack and lift the front of the car. after that you can just pull it out, and put it back in, from the bottom. if you dont lift the front, the axle is in the way just barely. i've done this six times on my 90 dx crx (yes i have shitty luck on autozone parts)
