dude they make mechanics stethescopes for that ----( did i spell that right?

why don't yu just try starting it with the alternator belt off and see if the noise is still there?
or even better, take it off and bring it to your friendly local parts store to have them put it on a machine and test it for you? i know oreilly does that for free around here. (kansas city)

thats why I have a thetoscope (sp) in my garage. replaced the pick up with a 12" coper rod and works way better than any broom stick or screw driver
