I have been researching turbos on this forum for a long time. All i could think about was turbocharging my car. So i worked countless numbers of hours the past 2 months to save up for my turbo setup. to make a long story short i blew my tranny now turboing will have to wait. Any suggestions were i can get a tranny for my 98dx. The local shop wanted 1400 installed for a new tranny.

you don`t even need a new tanny.
spend like 400 bucks at most, get a used Ex tanny(for the close ratio), replace the clutch with a good one that will withstand your boost.($300?)
there it is 700 dollars, half of what they want. replace it with a friend or two..hell, you can even dump another hunder bucks to treat your friends afterward just for the ---- of it.
how did you "blew" your old one anyway or how do you even know it blew??

that sucks man, my firends civics tranny blew out too, weird, jsut find a used one.

Where are you? I have a 95 ex 5-speed tranny in my garage. I'll let it go for $250.00 with axles. I don't know much about shipping big ---- out, that's why I don't offer shipping right now, but if you are close you could pick it up. I'm in Central Florida.

i have 2 trannys... not sure of the condition and ---- tho. ill sell them for 25 + shipping each. theyre no use to me

it was a certified totaled car. And the mechanic said those bastards probably rigged the tranny just so they didnt have to replace it. Car is driveable its the bearing in the input shaft that are going out. How hard is it to install a transmission and how long would it take?

On your 98 civic, the tranny swap is a very involved process. I would not attempt it if you have not changed an axel at least, Or something else that envolves removing many pieces then putting it back together correctly, and last but not least, do not attempt it without a helms. To me they are easy, But i know what i am doing. If you have time on your hands and are a quick learner, you could accomplish this in a day or afternoon. For a first timer, better give yourself the weekend!

if you know what your doing and have some cool tools then it'll take a day, if you are working with a repair manual and have regular tools expect it to take a weekend.
It's not too hard:
jack up car
yank axles
disconnect sensors/linkages
unbolt tranny
support engine/tranny and jack down tranny from car.
do everything in reverse with the other tranny.

Can't an input bearing be replaced? If so just do that then have a shop press in the new bearing(?) for like 50 bucks...

I think you can do this, you just gotta want that turbo enough...
