Almost ran out of gas, wtf?
 

So I bought some furniture for my new place today and was taking it back, I have about a 150 mile drive between apartments and figure I can just make it. I was under the impression that my car had a low fuel warning light, but I've never ran it much less than a quarter tank. I am about 95% of the way there and my gas needle is on empty, I figure no big deal, the gas light will come on when it's really low and I should have at least a gallon left. Well it didn't come on; I either don't have one or it's the one bulb in my gauge cluster that's broken. My car starts hesitating a bit, then it happens more and more often and I find myself going about 50 mph on the interstate praying for an exit soon. I took the next exit which was about 1.5 miles away and it seemed to take forever, hoping that my car didn't die. I have AAA so it wouldn't be a huge deal but it probably woulda taken an hour or more for someone to bring me gas. I pulled into the first gas station, ---- it's not open. Luckily I get to the next one which is a quarter mile away and my car dies upon turning in. After a bit of trying it started back up, just enough gas left to get to the pump.

The car is a 92 Civic DX, supposedly a 12 gallon tank. I pumped 11.5 gallons. What the ---- is the point of the last half gallon if I can't use it? Is my car even supposed to have a low gas indicator? The cluster is from an EX. I made it home safe to drink by myself and play some xbox, woo

Yea I remembered this happening to you when I posted it

But what's the fun in that?! I wanted to see if I could get home and back on a tank, and I can. I just did about 30 miles of city driving in the middle and it screwed it up. And now I know not to wait for the low fuel light that doesn't exist. It reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld when Kramer is taking a car for a test drive...

no low fuel light, replace the OEM fuel pump with a PROPERLY installed walbro and you can suck th tank damn near dry.

12.6 gallon fill up :)

factory depth too? gastanks don't drain bone dry to keep condensation from rusting the tank out as fast, basically

I left my house today drove like 35mins then needed gas so i pulled into a gas station get out and as im walking in to pay i feel my back pocket fuckkkkkk I forgot my wallet I had zero money on me :3 I just need to stay at home when im hungover :8

I don't know about EGs but in del sols if your car didn't have low fuel light installed factory, then you got to change the cluster, run wires, and install the sensor in the gas tank. ------- a lot of work for nothing. I take my arrow past the letter E all the time and surprisingly have never ran out of gas. I usually hypermile when my gas is on low. Wait, having a small honda over a v8 dumbmestic is already hypermiling lol.

I went into the very small red E range, and was soon out of gas. Not much play to work with, I thought all cars had an idiot light. I guess I was the idiot today :1

If I remember right my 91 wagon had a low fuel idiot light but I cant remember. Maybe it was the oil light. I usually refilled them both at the same time so it's hard telling. :S

I love my bro's X5, the gas light comes on when you have <50 miles left of driving range. It takes your average mpg and amount of gas left to calculate the range. ------- awesome and you never run out of gas, also the gas light on it is bright as a ----------er.

I've come close a few times. Once I was going down the interstate and didn't want to have to get off before my exit. I see the exit in sight and my car starts acting weird. I pull over and it sputters to a stop. I was like aw WTF. At this time the hand was past the read completely lol Sat there a min, a few cranks later and it started up. Drove about 20 for the next two miles to the station.

Same thing here! I also have some money under the seat. Anyway, usaly I don't forget my wallet :P

In the summer I take my teg few time a week, but not much more so I full the tank one time a month.

I hate Montreal because its full of stressed people on the road, but everything is near my app... I don't use my car more than 2 times a week.

I know my mr2 is low on gas when it starts sputtering. Either that or the mass air meter fell apart again... :l

atleast your gas guage works, i broke my level sender installing my racetronix pump so I have to go by the trip odo. 17mpg if im lucky.

i seem to have the same problem, my light works in my 99 hatch but when its on i have around .2 of a gallon left lol

I did the opposite. Parked it with no gas before christmas and forgot about it. Stuttered down the drive way, went dead crossing the main street to the gas station a mile away. It took about 5 min of cranking to get the lines re-primed. Thought that bitch was never going to start picking fuel back up!
