almost lost my license...

camaro was runnin shitty, cause all the valves were loose since the last time i drag raced i missed a bunch of gears and overrevved it way too many times (shitty linkage)

so i adjusted the valves, took her for a spin, just down the street on a fairly long straight residential road. (25 mph)

so i go once down, running pretty ok, turn around in the road. come back get on the it whole way, at about 90mph and just getting into 3rd gear, a cop comes around the bend.

so i slowed down as hard as the worthless drum brakes could. to top it off the plates have 01 tags on them. rofl

he looked straight at the car, its nice having this kinda car, the cops look at the CAR, not the license plates, i don't know if he was planing on turning around or not. this is the 3rd time this has happend. so anyways i just turn down my street, hauled ass to the house, pulled into the garage, and shut the bitch. i don't think having 2 speeding tickets and going 90 in a 25 with expired tags would've looked good to a judge.

chalk another one up for me, this is the 5th time i've gotten away without a ticket, when it was obvious i was going way too fast.

Re:almost lost my license...

well, ummm.... yeah.

90 in a 25 is sounds pretty crazy to me. If i saw someone in my town fly by my house doing 90, i would be pissed. what if i were pulling out, that wouldnt be too pretty. Oh well, ive done some dumb ---- too.

J-SMITH69 02-23-2003 05:52 PM

Re:almost lost my license...

well i didn't really fly by, i did a little under a 1/4 run
just enough time to get into 3rd gear... and i slowed down as fast as i could.... i don't know how far it was exactly, probably a couple hundred yards...

Re:almost lost my license...

i blew by a cop like that once. but it was like 70ish in a 45, i was thinking damn it would suck if a cop was coming the other way OH ----!, then downshifted a couple and busted a turn. he probly didnt even notice me though ::)

Re:almost lost my license...

nod its easy to get away if you just turn off, them make a couple more turns, and go home. but if you keep driving around they will radio other cops, to get you if they see you

Re:almost lost my license...

i passed a cop at about 130 on the highway once in my old 5 speed maxima on the way home from college, he was stopped radaring, and i didnt see him until i was about 200 yards away, he was at the top of a hill, no traffic, early in the morning, so i wanted to see what it would do. i was doing about 125 when i saw the cop(in a 55mph zone) and when i saw him i downshifted to 4th, and floored it. we made eye contact and he just watched me go by at a ridiculous speed, he didnt even try to get me. i got off at the next exit and hid from whoever he surely radioed ahead to get me. it scared the ---- out of me, but its kinda cool to look back at it.

turboboy 02-23-2003 08:30 PM

Re:almost lost my license...

cops arent supposed to pursue you at 130 anyway...too dangerous

Re:almost lost my license...

Re:almost lost my license...

Cops aren't always the problem around here. It's these roads with potholes. There's a few places around here with fun roads to drive (curve's & hills). Once in my rex I was doing about 90mph around some hard corners (like I always had) and got up to a straight away. I was already in 5th and just pushed it down. Once I hit 120, I don't know if it was a pothole or a wind burst, but the car just jumped for a second (suspension off the ground), and I STOPPED fast, and had a nice slow drive home from there. It really scared me to death because there was a white minivan in the other lane that saw the whole thing. I went back to check on the road and didn't see anything... what could have caused this? I've had the car at high speeds before, and I've never felt that.

Re:almost lost my license...

---- dude, my crx is such a pile, i wouldn't take it over 100. thats as far as i've gone in it is 100mph

one time i was driving my chevelle down a hilly road. there are three woopties in a row. i was only going about 80 but i had it floored in 2nd. (3 speed TH400) that big block 396 tourqes the car up and over really bad, and the front wheels came off the ground, i could feel the emptyness in the steering wheel. scared me pretty good.

Re:almost lost my license...

Dude, that's awesome. I had the chance to get a Chevelle one time, but never got it. I'm honestly not sure what size engine it had, but it was a 1970 SS.

My friend Jason has a Chevelle with 600 HP and running a 300 shot of NOS (600 without the NOS). He's still building it, and it's almost done. Can't wait to see what he runs in the 1/8th or even the 1/4...

J-SMITH69 02-24-2003 03:07 AM

Re:almost lost my license...

1970 ss had a bb454 i believe.
you can do a lot with a 454. the factory ones were pretty mild though.
mine is a 69 ss396, the stock 325hp camshaft (biggest POS cam ever in a big block factory car). but its got a little less than 400hp right now. pretty mild 396. but it runs about 13 and a half. was going to be build into a show car/street driven mild chevelle... but ran out of money. chevelles drive really really nice btw. it has power steering and a/c. but the ac isn't in there right now

if he has a good set of slicks he will run damn fast, i'd say 10s with 900hp in an aprox 4500 pound chevelle. he will have to have a roll cage and a helmet, and other misc ---- to race it. but it'll be faster than ----

thats if he can ever get it runnin right. its hard to tune a car with i'm assuming a big cam and carb'd. especially with the advent of nitrous.

He is darn good at what he does. He does head work for people all the time around here... btw, it's got rollcage and everthing else you would expect.

Do you like the Camaro or the Chevelle better? I might consider getting that Chevelle later down the road. I was told someone blew the motor out of it, and saw it sitting behind a dealership... not sure what's going on with it now. There's just something I like about it (red with white stripes and looks NIICE inside).

Re:almost lost my license...

well, i like the way 1st gen camaro look. they aren't really comfortable cars to drive around. but they are pretty light for muscle cars. 3200 - 3500 pounds

chevelle are very nice and very drivable cars, you'd be hard pressed to find very many cars that feel so good driving around town. they are big and pretty heavy, mine weighs about 4200 pounds with most of the ---- not in the car. i love them both, but i like the camaro better, just because i like the way they look and since this one is pretty much a street car with a dragster motor in it. its fun to drive. but then again, i've never lost a street race in the chevelle, and its fun to manually shift a turbo hydrolic 400 with a shift kit.

one time i was cruising down the highway at like 50mph. some old guy drove up in a stingray corvette. thought he was the ----, and since my chevelle has such a mild cam and low gears, it doesn't make hardly any noise when cruising. he thought he was going to be a big guy and smoke me cause i was so young. (drove the car when i was in highschool everyday it wasn't raining) he floored it and jump ahead, i shifted down manually into 1st gear at 50mph (LONG .308 rear end gears :(
it really got his attention when i got even with him and chipped the tires into 2nd, he looked over then and it was too late. not much to brag about cause those early 80s stringray corvettes are such dogs, very slow :(
except the LT1 all aluminum 427, they are fast :P

i gotta get up a play baseball in 4 hours, like everyday.

night

im not sure what the laws are like in the states, but in canada if you get caught for speeding but the cop looses sight of your car before he catches up to you he cant do ----, how is he supposed to know that is the exact car he tagged. Like he can read a plate while lookin at a radar gun not to mention driving at whatever speeds... thats just my .02

Re:almost lost my license...

When I first got my license, my daily driver was an '80 Toyota with monster lift and 38" tires. The cops always had something to say about it. I once got pulled over twice on the way to school, either the usual "bumper height" or "tire coverage" violation. Or a license plate light out. Or front plate in the window. Or too loud. I started poking a hole in my shitty dash cover every time I got pulled over. I was at 32 when I got the Corolla and started getting pulled over in it. No tickets until a month ago when I, uhh, lost track of speed, and went 63 in a 35. It was the forty-third time I had been pulled over since I got my license in March of 2000.

J-SMITH69 02-24-2003 01:39 PM

Re:almost lost my license...

that is hilllarious, i used to get pulled over in the chevelle all the time cause the liceanse plate light didn't work. but i fixed it, then they just started following me everything (word got around that a black chevelle had escaped from a cop quite a few times)

there is a lot of that tire converage here, everybody like to have their mudders, without flaps especially. i used to have a 1980 gmc sierra classic lifted with 33s, wasn't extreme but i never got stuck

Re:almost lost my license...

The other night my friend and I took out his dad's TurboS bug at like 1 or 2 in the morning and were having fun with it. We were down this street by my high school (flat, straight and about 1.5 miles long) and were taking it up to about 115 or 120. We decided we should leave because it's close to a residential area, but not real close. Anyways we were leaving and as we pulled up to an intersection about 1/2 mile away, a cop goes through at about less than 10 mph. Then he turns around and follows us to the highway. We went to K-Mart and walked around there for a bit and he left by the time we came back out. It was scary.

Then right after we left K-Mart we went were going to go through some twisties and so I turn on the road, gun it through first, and when I hit second we see an oncoming car so I slow down, and again, it was a cop. After that we went home.

Re:almost lost my license...

first of all of you're going to be the camaro moderator you might want to educate yourself, the camaro is a 1967 SS model

and its got totally rebuilt show quality suspension (poly mounts and poly bushings, kyb gas shocks, big ass sway bars, and big fat tires) it handles very very well especailly for an old car. what makes it handle bad is the 500 ft lbs of tourqe, can't get on it around corners or even out of corners... you have to be going straight. it out handles my crx, they aren't even comparable. my crx is to ------- light in the rear, i've spun it three times going around easy corners at less than 45mph. it needs some wieght on the back end very badly.

too bad shortyz is jealous lol, he has to hate on me. i only post pictures of the car when someone is interested in it. so stick it in your ass shortyz. shorty with a big fat homosexual Z at the end.

maybe this summer we can meet at a road race in washington, and i can trailer the camaro down there and lap you a couple dozen times, we can see which will handle better your civic hatch or the infamous camarhoe.

nice, i'm looking forward to seeing it. whats better about 396 though? 409ci is more than 396ci :P and sb rev a lot higher in most situations... obviously not on a dragster or something rofl.

This car isn’t meant to drag. It was restored to show. It gets driven every week (weather permitting) but its not made to really be non-stock.
