Almost finished...

2 Attachment(s)
Well, my B-series project on the cheap is almost finished. All I really have left to do on the car (89 hatchback) is some bodywork, order up some tires, chip the ecu, and give it a good cleaning.
So far my price list has been pretty low. Originally i was going to just build up the d16z6 that was in it last November when i put it off the road, but i gave in to the lure of the b18, not to mention a helluva deal on it.
List so far:
B18a1 with under 70k, PR4 ecu, LS trans, and Hasport motor mounts and shift linkages - $300
91 Integra rear brake conversion - $20
Homemade log manifold (everything homemade...i'm a little broke here) - $23
Homemade 2 1/2" exhaust with "Whitey bends" ending with Dynomax Super Turbo muffler - $55
Charge pipes re-used from old setup
'04 Evo 8 FMIC from last install - $50
'04 Evo 8 16g pinwheel - $150
Apexi twin chamber bov - did an in-dash dvd player install for it...so 1 hour of time bitches 8)

She's definately nothing to look at, but for the money i put into it, i can't complain. Who says boostin' can't be cheap? ;D

Hey, for under $25 i'd love to see you do better...and that's including the mig wire. I had to make everything...flanges, bends, everything ;D I agree, it could've looked a little nicer if i ground the welds but i got lazy at that point. Function over form is def. the rule of thumb here.

how did yo make your flanges, i'm about to do it with some 3/8 steel and an oxy/acetylene torch

The exhaust flange that bolts to the motor sucked ass to make. I copied the exhaust gasket pattern onto the steel, then drilled it out using a hole saw for the exhaust ports. Only prob. is honda exhaust ports are oval, not round...which meant i had to drill two holes technicly just to make one port and overlap the holes. Hit the centers of them with a die-grinder to remove the little bit of overlap, and voila'...actually matched up perfectly too. Pretty much did the same with the turbo flange as well cause the mitsu turbos have circular ports instead of square. Just used a large hole saw for that as well. And lots of wd-40 to keep all the hole saw and drill bits cool.

oh alright, thanks.

i guess ill just buy some hole saws instead of spending 40 bucks to get the tanks filled up with oxy and acetylene

Re: Almost finished...

Depending on the flange you need to make, it'll def. be easier just to buy one. If you're looking for the exhaust flanges, i think the best deal you can get would be from discrete racing(i think that's the name?). Now if it's a exhaust to turbo flange, it probably would be better to make it yourself.
