air fuel gauge broken?

the gauge only stays in the stoich, no bouncing or nothing...i hooked everything up right...it doesnt even move.....i mean i have a d16a6....i can unplug the oxygen sensor and my car still runs...is this weird or is this normal.....so i was just wondering is my gauge broken?i have it hooked to ground, power in the fuse box under dash, and last wire atached to oxygen sensor wire under the hood.....still no bouncing....just sitting in the stoich area, even while idling, under load, never moves....i dont know..help pleaz...

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

what code do you have? sounds like a lazy o2 sensor..

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

how do i tell what code i am getting? i dont know how to find that out? i think there is something wrong with the oxygen sensor, or something...i replaced the oem oxygen sensor with bosch, and still getting the same thing...what could it be jeff?

figure out which code you are throwing.. might be a faulty o2 sensor.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

now i spliced the wire in the engine compartment, and installed the a/f gauge wire to it...and after i did that i started to get the check engine light...i dont really know what it is??i will look for the codes later on, i am inside and tired right now....have u ever had this problem jeff?also the check engine light doesnt come on until maybe 5 min after driving the car, after it warms up..

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

thats fine and dandy.. figure out your code, and maybe we can figure out your problem ;)

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

sounds like an O2 code.. the ECU doesnt start taking readings from the O2 sensor until the car warms up.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

the check engine light came on after i spliced the o2 sensor wire to hook up my a/f gauge.....but it seems as though my car drives the same....but my a/f gauge just stays in the stoich and never moves....it is weird...maybe it is broken...i will try to hook it to the ecu wires, and see if that makes a difference....but this sux, and i cant figure it out...why would it throw a code, i just spliced the wire for god sakes...anyone with answers?

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

did u solder the connections? The ECU reads the voltage in the O2 sensor from like 0 to 5 volts.. really small range and splicing into it might mess up the voltage. Also, make sure your guage is grounded to a good clean ground.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

what about if i ran it to the battery , is that good enough? also i didnt solder it...just spliced and put some electrical tape around it....would it be better? also i can unplug my oxygen sensor while my car is running and it wont cut off, is this normal...

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

ya it should still run w/o an o2 sensor.. either normally or in Limp mode.

The ground wire for the guage should not be very long..

did u say u have the guage in your a-pillar grounded to the battery?? if so, move the ground do somewhere below.. like the fuse box under the steering wheel area.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

where at under the fuse box?? i am wondering with that check engine light on does it put my car in limp mode...??

88crxSi 03-15-2003 08:43 PM

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

no it shouldn't.. where the fuse box is under the steering wheel look for a bolt that goes into the chassis that has a wire grounded there. just use the same bolt. make sure both wires are secured.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

cool i will do that tonite...now what could be causing that damn check engine light...my o2 sensor is attached...car is running fine....i dont really understand this damn thing....but i do know it came on after i spliced that wire....i wish i wouldnt have done that...i have a bosch o2 sensor, only a week old....i will try to figure it out, any suggestions?

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

not really more then I've said already.

Re:air fuel gauge broken?

well thanx for all the hell dude i appreciate it...i love this site, it is so cool...i will try to fix it once a gain tonite after i get off of work....hopefully i will have good results..
