air conditioning compressor and hoses

I got a question, when i take the air conditioning compressor off an engine, you just unbolt everything, but what about the hoses, I have drained all the refrigerant or whatever it is, so do u just unscrew them that go into the firewall as well, hard to do ?

You might need some bolt cutters. Sometimes the ends dont want to come undone.

Unbolt everything, and please don't leave the line connected to the firewall. Take the time to take it out, cut the belt, and have it clean. ;)

Yes, open your hood and look, its gonna be on your right side (cars left).

Also I didnt know you can actually take the piping off as well that goes to the firewall, How hard it ---- to do?

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

take the battery out and unhook the pipes, then remove them :)

CRXCavi 05-11-2005 10:17 AM

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

Just disconnect them from the firewall? And then they go to the compressor and the condensor, right? And no one really answered the first question, do you just unbolt the compressor and get a new belt?

ghettoturbo 05-11-2005 10:38 AM

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

well it depends what car you have....if the belt doesnt go around anything else, then you leave it off entirely. If you have like a mustang or something, then you need an ac eliminator kit

The two aluminum pipes running into the firewall didnt want to come appart for me so I just bent that ---- till it busted off. Minnesota snow&salt+aluminum = corosion :(

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

we just ripped all my ---- out. cut the pulley off, took out the condesor, core, fan, all the plumbing, and blah blah blah. the wires are still hangin aorund, im not cuttin em off JUST INCASE i ever want to put the AC back in

CRXCavi 05-14-2005 11:41 AM

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

Yeah, my pipes are still in the firewall too. Anyone know how to remove them? Does it require you to get the dash off?

And (at least in my 1990 CRX Si) their are 2 belts, so all you have to do is remove the AC belt and unbolt the compressor to get that off.

Re: air conditioning compressor and hoses

I just unbolted mine in my last car. no big deal. just go to a place and have the refrigerant drained, its really bad for the enviorment. I know I know, this is hmt, but we still have to take a few precaution, for our sake.
