AHH stupid tar

stupid sound deadening tar!!!

i've been trying to get out all of the sound deadening tar in my crx in between the rest of the duties like work i have to deal with so its taking me a week now...

i started by strippin out my interior.

i used dry ice and a chisel to break it up in bigger chunks... i got most of it out, but there were still bits and peices left behind.

so...

i looked around and someone suggested a parts cleaner because of the intensity of it... so i poured it in the car!... it took up the paint and some of the tar... but there is still a lot left. on top of that, now i have exposed metal that i cannot paint yet(like i plan to do all along) and there is still tar everywhere! what will get this crap out of my car? here are pictures:

http://gallery.2nr.net/albums/userpi...PID%20TAR5.jpg

as you can see it is real shitty. i've got to do something about it like today and tomorrow... i'm not going to keep driving it like this... tar on my shoes and i cannot carry ---- around and i don't want to ---- up my decently clean si seats :) and it really needs another color! lol...
what chemical or whatever could i possibly use to make this car spotless from that freaking tar?

also some of it got sprayed on my paint on the outside of the car and the headliner and the windows... what can take this off AND not destroy paint or my headliner or windows?(lower priority of course)

Re: AHH stupid tar

does anyone know of a chemical that will allow me to just wipe this stuff up?

the reason i started this project is because i'm going to PAINT the interior. i'm not installing my interior ever again.

pour 5 gallons off gas on your floor and then light it on fire, when the fire is out the job is done.

Re: AHH stupid tar

some dude from Honda-tech did it by covering the whole floor with dry ice, those crap will freeze/harded, then you smake it to crack and simply peel it all off.

BUT

Looks like youve heard about all the "tricks" now your left with good old elbow grease. Sometimes there is no easy "wipe it up" way. Get in there and own that ----!

i poured some in it, let it sit for 5 min and then chiseled some pieces out. i figured it would break it as loose as i needed it while i was using my elbow grease. so i then poured the rest of it out all over the car and let it sit so that it could take action. then i tried chiseling some more and basically gave up because it was getting dark and this stuff was obviously not doing what i needed it to do so i went to a coin op pressure washer... where it became puddles of broken down tar, the parts cleaner ----, and water... then i vacuumed it out.

i took advice from the wrong guy when he suggested "chem dip"... that ---- was a waste of my money and time... now i smell like it and my boss is sending me home because it is giving us all burning sensations in our eyes and noses. i work at an isp btw and this ---- is all in my clothes. i'm about to go home and change clothes and ride my ------- schwinn to work. haha! its been 2 days and my car still smells like that ----!

anyway, i bought some floor adhesive remover ---- because that's the best adhesive remover i could find. and it works very effeciently... now i just have to figure a way to get it out of there. i need like a huge ------- contoured squeegy and a ledge to dump all the ---- off of. ::)

this is the car:

Re: AHH stupid tar

haha... i could make it look like this again except for the steering wheel and cluster, but i'd prefer to clean it, paint it, and ride it instead.

That camo scheme reminds me of the 3 Eko STIs that were on the cover of Modefied Mag.It looks pretty good.

Re: AHH stupid tar

brake fluid works insanely well. just normal dot 3. but it eats paint, so dont get it on anything you dont wanna repaint. let the brake fluid soak for awhile, then you can pretty much wipe it up.

indeed :)

there are very many people around here that know me by the car.

but really, just like the outside of the car, i had to get rid of the random colors. this time you looked at my car and saw neutral colors(white black and grey) outside and then the inside yellow took the attention. if i was going to paint it, what better choice? it came out just as well as i planned. i'll have some thorough pictures in the next day or so. i also had a chance to take out all the things that i didn't use. i've been driving crx's for the past 4 years daily so i knew exactly what i wanted to keep and what i didn't use.
