Aerocivic
Saw this as I was cruising the interweb, thought I'd post if for you guys. http://forum.ecomodder.com/showthread.php?p=2110
Dude gets close to 100mpg in that ugly thing, pretty sick. Check out the cars in the bottom of his first post too. At 6'4", I really don't think I'd ever fit into that Metro |
Re: Aerocivic
100% stock and worn out my hatch get's 41mpg on the nose regular driving and 70 in pulse and glide. i've no doubt if i wanted to hold up traffic 90-100mpg could be a reality.
i think all that ---- is retarded. make an undertray at most and forget all that silly hippie ----. |
Re: Aerocivic
I've seen near 100 mpg cars that didn't look like a 1950's experimental spaceship. I'd never drive that thing.

Re: Aerocivic
I don't get damming off the whole front of the car. Doesn't that kind of eliminate the radiator air flow... which is a bad thing? What if you opened up the front but ducted the air through the radiator and down out the bottom of the bay, while blocking off the rest of the bottom of the bay to keep air out. You might need to tilt the radiator to get it to work right, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Front bay dam + flat sheet across the bottom of the car and you should cut out a lot of the drag. I don't think I could live with that mirror bullshit they did.

Re: Aerocivic
Alot of the radiator flow isn't needed. It's one of the first things the "hypermilers" eliminate.
|
Re: Aerocivic
So how do they avoid overheating? My car would overheat almost instantly if I blocked the radiator off like that. How do they keep it cool?
|
Re: Aerocivic
Interesting, kind of looks like a shitty airplane...

In addition he posts on Gassavers.org. Site's like HOnda-Tech; good info but a bunch of assholes. P.S. Liberal assholes (Johnny I am looking in your direction) ;) |

Re: Aerocivic
when you get into REALLY hardcore pulse and glide driving it's going from quick accellerations to whatever speed deminishing returns from your aerodynamic and mechanical drag occure down to low speeds where you can coast a long way. dancing from 25-55 is pretty common. tailgating like a mofo.
quick burn engine on followed by engine off coasting. now equate this on level ground, up and down hills + evel ground, ect. taking turns as quickly as possible to conserve momentum gained. early braking / coasting and late braking not with traffic flow but to conserve momentum and or timing. real quick way to piss people off. when i do it, i try to dance around 45mph as much as possible. when you're on good old county or rural roads it's not that much of a big deal. in twisty, hilly roads its sorta fun because by speeding to 60 and coasting back down to 40-45 you can typically maintain the average speed of traffic, if not slightly out accellerate them. the best thing is hen you get into say afew stoplights in a row and you're engine off coasting for 1-3miles. that's where the lightbulb hits and you go hey... any dumbfuck could get atleast 50% more gas mileage in any vehicle if they tried. plus until you get tired of it it's self-entertaining. if possible do it on a M/T lacking powersteering, and instead of flipping the key (it would suck to have the steeringwheel lock on you) use a switch / switch + relay to cut the power to the ECU. sometimes i do it if im not pressed for time, but it's gotten to where i always do it in the civic coming home b/c the last 3 miles the traffic is at 25-45mph and i normally can engine-off coast almost two and a half miles. (and it's not downhill) |

I would get great satisfaction watching that :6 |
Re: Aerocivic
We should invade that site....

Re: Aerocivic
He should of just went with a body kit off of ebay. The rearend is pretty trippy looking though.
|
Re: Aerocivic
damn that side pretty much revolves around civics and crx's. Guess we aren't the only ones who figured our they are gods gift to men. I still would never go that far in modding for mileage, but i would enjoy the hell out of 50+ mpg.
|
Re: Aerocivic
Im sure a VX with some minor mods not so silly looking could get you 60-70 mpg range easy it got fifty something stock.
|
Re: Aerocivic
8 Attachment(s)
53 MPG with a D15B7 that made 35 whp over stock.
Attachment 20998 Attachment 20999 Attachment 21000 Attachment 21001 Attachment 21002 Attachment 21003 Attachment 21004 Attachment 21005 I did have the nose blocked off once below 50F, about 18-20 square inch opening was all I needed |
Re: Aerocivic
what made it 35 whp over stock? Just curious. That is damn impressive. Can you go turbo and still get 45-50mpg on the highway???
|
Re: Aerocivic
Yeah... An evo in SCC's competition a few years ago made 40mpg or more, with a 2L motor making like 450-500hp. The key was having a big enough turbo to stay out of boost and tuning for fuel mileage out of boost.

Re: Aerocivic
The sad part about it was APR's Evo I think (widebody yadda yadda looked fast but sucked) placed significantly worse in the competition, made less power, and had half the mileage.

They also said brad's MR2 widebody, supercharged 3.0L 1mz-fe v6 with the trd supercharger at 9psi, and a 125 shot of the juice would get over 40mpg, when it admittantly bearly get's 25 on the highway. SCC is ------- retarded. |
Re: Aerocivic
Right, staying out of boost with a large enough turbo to boost mileage is complete bullshit.
|
Re: Aerocivic
SCC is what im saying is complete bullshit.
those bunch of rice faggots can't add and divide beyond how many wings a car needs stacked on it's trunk so STFU. |

If it matters the article I'm talking about is 2 or 3 years old. Numbers are numbers so stfu. Big turbo + small displacement = huge topend power and mileage for daily driving.. tried and true, so stfu.

Oh word, I never really read magazines but I'll have to look that up.
I dabbled with SCC but then the only fairly smart editor left to work for Mazda, which wouldn't be a bad gig honestly. |
