Aerocivic

Saw this as I was cruising the interweb, thought I'd post if for you guys. http://forum.ecomodder.com/showthread.php?p=2110
Dude gets close to 100mpg in that ugly thing, pretty sick. Check out the cars in the bottom of his first post too. At 6'4", I really don't think I'd ever fit into that Metro

I've seen near 100 mpg cars that didn't look like a 1950's experimental spaceship. I'd never drive that thing.

Re: Aerocivic

I don't get damming off the whole front of the car. Doesn't that kind of eliminate the radiator air flow... which is a bad thing? What if you opened up the front but ducted the air through the radiator and down out the bottom of the bay, while blocking off the rest of the bottom of the bay to keep air out. You might need to tilt the radiator to get it to work right, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Front bay dam + flat sheet across the bottom of the car and you should cut out a lot of the drag. I don't think I could live with that mirror bullshit they did.

Alot of the radiator flow isn't needed. It's one of the first things the "hypermilers" eliminate.

Re: Aerocivic

So how do they avoid overheating? My car would overheat almost instantly if I blocked the radiator off like that. How do they keep it cool?

There are efficient ways to drive and then there is hypermiling which equates to driving like and -------.

It's not being operated at high RPMs.
