Advice for first time at track?

Well Friday I'll be visiting my friend in Orlando with a HMT turbo sol (slammd sol) on the forum. Anyway Friday we've decided to head out to the Orlando Speedway. I've never ran on the track and only been to one once. (Ours is 80miles away. Too far for my blood.) So anyway to the point. Any advice anyone could give me? Good ways to launch? Any tips? Heh I dont wanna make an ass outta myself. :P

When you sit on the line, holding your rpm's at the desired level, you will see the lights start to drop, you get nervous and floor it. Nothing but a burn out! Try not to get nervous and hold your rpm's where you want them. I'd rather "under launch" than do a smokey burnout.

Don't be a dipshit at the lights, don't have any staging duals with the other guy. Go in, light up both lights, and get ready. Don't roll through the lights before the starter activates the tree.

Drive straight.

After the finish line, slow down.

If your car breaks and you think you might be spewing fluids all over the track, don't drive all the way down. Pull over and save the track.

Overall, just don't get nervous. It's a rush. The mistakes are made when you get nervous. Good luck.

first time everyone gets nervous. dont worry u will screw up

;D it makes for good storys

also dont let your brain let u start letting the clutch up when U SEE GREEN. judge when itll turn green and ------- give her on the 3rd yellow. fact is your car wont be moving before it turns green, cars sits back for about .1s before it actually moves.

good luck

Re:Advice for first time at track?

oh, I almost forgot the first rule:

Rule 1) If your not willing to max your car out, or if your afraid of breaking something, you shouldn't go. Too many people say, "I didn't want to break." Trust me, half of the rush is not giving a ---- and just mashing on that fucken thing. :D ;)

i agree, its best to bog alittle off the line to retain traction. and yes, you must wring the piss outta ur car. i finished my first a6 off at the track....but you dont build a turbo engine to just putts around in now do you? ;D

Re:Advice for first time at track?

Just keep your eyes open and relax. If you're not sure what to do, watch the guys in front of you. And I hate those people who blow by the staging lights and sit there like "Ok, I'm ready to start the race!" and then it takes the track guys a couple of minutes to back the person up and then they back up too far and then they pull up and can never get it right. Don't be one of those people... :)

For your first couple of runs, don't get crazy and reckless. I'd do a slow launch and get a feel for the track and find your comfort level. I raced up in Northern Ohio a few months ago (first time at that particular track) and at the end, it kind of goes downhill and then STOPS. I was flying down there and was like OH ----! Turn! Turn! Turn! Get to know the layout of the track, where the finish line is (can't even begin to stress the importance of that, at least in competition) and then go full throttle and beat the piss out of your car.

And like someone else said before, leave on the light just before green. It takes about a 1/2 second to react so by the time your car even begins to move, it'll be right about the same time the light turns green.

Finally, have fun and be safe. ;)

P.S. The finish line thing... At that same track, the finish line wasn't clearly marked and I let off the gas cuz I had a huge lead... Unfortunately, I was nowhere near the finish line, got passed and lost. I always make 100% sure I know where everything is before I lay on it.

What's even more fucked up though is that I raced at another track and asked 5 people working there where the finish line was... AND NOBODY KNEW. I finally had to track down the manager/owner to find out. ::)

What time are you going? I wanted to take my new WRX to see how it'll do before I ---- with it. I thought fridays was for pros only in Orlando, or like 10 second cars. They do have the races every first saturday of the month from 10 to like 3 am. I might see you there, It'll be my first time racing also.

Re:Advice for first time at track?

i noticed a huge difference after cleaning my throttle body and filter
the filter was so pack fullon dirt and mud i had to just keep banging on the ground tile i got most of it out

but yeh throttle body cleaner, fuel injector cleaner and some good clean oil would help;)
as far as launching..same thing everyone else said
after the first couple times you should get tyour lauching style down.
At our track ou had like a drop T effect???
only one yellow light would light up before the green so basically you go onthe yellow instead of waitng for the green at the bottom
is was test and tune day

try to get the right hand lane...its so much easier to stare at your tach and the tree that way (maybe im just slightly retarded though)

Re:Advice for first time at track?

Yea if you are worried that youre gonna blow somthing up, idk, the best part about it is showing up and raping the car cuz you dont give a ----. I once wasted my automatic accord at the strip (slipping like a mofo, redlined in every gear due to slipping) and i still wasted this kid with a ford focus 3x... each time with a blown tranny. I launch right when i think im gonna redlight (right before the green light turns on, when i see the light right before it go out) and its paid off with .520 ish r/ts consistently and ive never redlighted, but you need to go and see what works for you, thats part of the fun, even if youre car isnt ultimatley fast. When i first started going i thought i was gonna be flamed because my car was running 16s/17s at the time, but nobody gives a ---- because youre there to race. Ive seen people race minivans and chevy blazers and tahoes.. so you can race anything

Re:Advice for first time at track?

take out your spare tire and jack etc misc ---- slows you down. Also if you can take your air filter out (just for a run or two, itll make a slight difference) and try airing down your tires to like 15 psi in the fronts for more traction.
