Advice on buying swap NWS

Im trying to find a stock d15b7 as a stock replacement for my buddies car which is getting tired and constantly blowing headgaskets. What are some things I should look for or ask when inspecting the motor. Im paranoid that I will cash out on a motor that doesnt even run. Also I was wondering what the average price of a complete D15 runs minus the tranny. thanks

Buy a jdm d15b and what's with the nws?

I don't think this guy knows what nws stands for.

Oh and generally find an engine u can hear running before it is pulled. Around my area it is easy to find someone that will do this to sell a stock engine before a swap. And I see d15b7 longblocks go for 3-400. Shoot lately I've seen complete swaps for less than 600.
