Accord build about to begin
Been looking to turbo my 99 accord (f23A1) for some time now. Finally got the money and time to do it.
Parts have finally arrived. Still waiting for the Blow off Valve, and have to order the Tial 38mm wastegate. Should start the build in about a week. Here is what I've got so far. T3/T04E 54 trim Log mani w/ wastegate ext. 6" JRC intercooler 2.5" charge piping Oil feed and return lines P28 ecu w/ uberdata OBDII to OBDI conv harness Correct Inject 450cc Injectors Going to be running 8 psi max with conservative tune. Car is meant for road racing not quarter mile. Still hoping for over 200 whp. I'll update this thread as progress continues. Thanks for the help from everyone on here. Stealthmode, Tuner Toys, ProjectTeg, and everyone else who posted info relevant to the accords. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...044_8_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...044_9_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...44_10_full.jpg |
Re: Accord build about to begin
youll definatley hit 200whp with some good tuning....good luck

Re: Accord build about to begin
I'm preety sure I'm going to end up over 200whp. Not the 220 some guys get, but still over 200. Going to start doing some NASA HPDE soon, and need to be able to run wide out for 30-40 minutes. Might even only run 7psi for the time being. I also live up in the mountains. It's a 20 minute hard drive up a winding highway to get to school.
Engine build is planned next. Pistons, rods, bearings, Headwork, along with an H22 transmission. But that wont be till I get my commuter car. Hopefully in a week or so. After that I'll bump her up to 15 psi or so. Should be enough to stay competitive in NASA Super Unlimited along with some nice suspension work. I'm also looking for a tuner in the Santa Cruz/San Jose, CA area that can tune Uber. Would like to get a good street tune before heading to the dyno. |
Re: Accord build about to begin
so youre from the bay eh? san jose has DNR, theyre supposedly pretty good, but learn to tune yourself its a worthwhile experience

Re: Accord build about to begin
I'm from down near Santa Cruz, up in the boondocks. But San Jose is only 30 minutes away. I'm looking to learn, but I'm a hands on learner. Need someone who knows what they are doing to show me and guide me as I do it. Don't pick up from just reading about it, and experimenting on my daily driver At the moment doesn't sound too appealing.

Re: Accord build about to begin
turbos aren't necessary good for auto x
|
Re: Accord build about to begin
Not going to be doing Auto X. Actually going to be doing road racing at Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Buttunwhillow. Preety much any track close enough for me to drive to that NASA hold events at.

Re: Accord build about to begin
I wish I could do that^ but I live in mn :'(

Re: Accord build about to begin
you should make more than 220lbft of tq, tq is good :) i dont know about going all out for 20minutes straight though.

Re: Accord build about to begin
how much did all your parts set you back? i have a f23a1 in my 2002 accord and i am looking at building it but want to see if i cant swap heads on it first. any pointers are appreciated.

Re: Accord build about to begin
swap the h22 head on there^^, look around for it, its called the G23.
|
Re: Accord build about to begin
sounds nice, now get it in and get us some numbers. ;D
|
Re: Accord build about to begin
why would you use such a large turbo for road roacing and 200whp?
|
Re: Accord build about to begin
looks like tyrus really improved the quality of his intercoolers.
Let's see pics of the car! ;D |
Re: Accord build about to begin
looks good so far man.. keep us updated :y

Re: Accord build about to begin
other than the turbo what do you have done to the car?
|
Re: Accord build about to begin
looks like its gonna be a good setup. Itll be good to have another boosted accord around as well

Re: Accord build about to begin
Right now I'm in the process of upgrading the clutch and flywheel. Ran into a little problem swapping them in yesterday, and had to wait on a new Halfshaft. Old one was slightly warped. Put in an ACT HD pressure plate with just a performance street disc, and a 13 lbs flywheel. The six puck can wait till after I get my daily driver. Hoping to start my build this week. Depends on the availability of my friend with the welder. I won't have my TIG till christmas. I think we should be done by friday though. Then it's off to the dyno. I think the turbo will be fine for the car once I build the internals up. It won't be running low boost for long. I've got a few things to get first, but the engine work should happen in a few months. The goal before I start racing the car is to replace the lowering springs with a set of Tien racing coilovers, put in the roll cage, replace the rear drums with discs off an EX accord. Then Upgrade all discs with bigger rotors and calipers. Havn't devided which brand yet. Rebuild the tranny and install a KAAZ lsd. That coupled with 350 to 400 at the wheels, should keep me competitive in super unlimited. As long as I can keep the car together and keep the DNF's down.
The whole turbo build has cost me about 1800 total. Havn't added everything up, but that is a good balpark. You could go cheaper with a lot of parts for your build. I think you could turbo your 02 accord for about 1500 or so. |
