97 GSR build, from the ground up (updated 1-14-06) 56k = very bad idea
So the story starts with me picking up a '97 GSR teg that was stripped for a race car. My plans are to turn it into a street car with a turbo D or B... I don't know which motor to slap in yet.
The car comes with a straight body, but its is sun roof was partially filled in. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/emptyteg.jpg The car was missing the complete interior, gastank, srs, wipers, front brakes, spring, engine, tranny, and much more. Here is the ride home front shot http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...ront-small.JPG rear shot http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...rear-small.JPG When I got it home, I started searching for parts through ebay, boneyards, local car forums and any place I thought I could find parts. Starting off I found some springs/struts to put on my Del Sol so I can do a swap and my good suspension on the teg. This set me back 50 bones http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...suspension.JPG I got some leather gsr seats for my Del sol a few months ago... looks like I need seats in the teg so that's going to end up great. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/leather-seats.JPG I first start by fixing a broke wheel stud in the front http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...stud-small.JPG I got on Honda-tech and found a really good write up on a tool that came be made from autozone rental parts. Next, I went to the boneyard scrapped some 91 ls brakes. Nobody was 100% this swap would work, but it seems it does. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...pers-small.JPG First I did a test fit http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...kes--small.JPG The I picked up some new rotors and performance pads and installed them http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...akes-small.JPG The complete front bakes cost close to 100 dollars. Now I was on the hunt for the missing parts, stuff I couldn't get at the boneyard. I found this guy in Hammond that had the gas tank, lines, hoses, big hose, cap, wiper motors, wiper gears, and front plastic air dam. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...arts-small.JPG I ended up getting interior, heater, AC parts, lines, upper ball joints, srs computer, air ports, and a lot of misc parts. That truck load of parts cost me another 100 dollars Now I moved on to installing the wiper motor system. First, I had to remove the sheetmetal which was riveted down. After a quick discussion on HMT it was concluded that the easiest way was to use an angle grinder and use a punch to knock out the remaining rivet. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...over-small.JPG After removing the cover I could see where to install the motor. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...over-small.JPG Next, I installed the motor / linkage http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...otor-small.JPG Finally, I installed the plastic cover where the sheet metal used to lay. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...over-small.JPG Now I started doing a test fit of the interior heater/blower/vents/srs computer. Before: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...rior-small.JPG Next, goes the floor vent, srs computer, srs cover, heater core: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...ater-small.JPG Finally, I placed in the blower motor: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...ower-small.JPG Now I started on the fuel cell removal. The fuel cell was very easy two bolts and I cut the fuel line to the cell. Before: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...cell-small.JPG After: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...cell-small.JPG Now I need to figure out what to do with that hole, but I went ahead and removed the sheet metal covering the fuel pump and such. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...prep-small.JPG I found out from hmt that seal sealer does a great job of filling in holes, so I did all those empty rivet holes on the firewall and on the floor board. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...lerl-small.JPG I went back to the junkyard and picked up a AC evaporator and installed it. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...tall-small.JPG Then I added the gas tank, fuel pump with new bag filter, fuel filler hose, cover, exhaust shields, and fuel lines. Before: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...area-small.JPG After: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...ller-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...ller-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...over-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/gas-cap-small.JPG Then I had to add a fuel pump connector since it missing: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...over-small.JPG I pretty much wiped out the junkyards locally, next I hit up the larger town junkyards, but I didn't find much besides a fuel pump and obd1 ecu. no pics for those yet. Today, I made it to a u-pull-it in Baker, Louisiana. I found a pretty nice 94+ GSR with black interior. I pulled all the parts below for $170. I started in the rear of the car pulling out the rear interior plastics and worked my way to the front of the car. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/trunk-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/trunk2-small.JPG Then I started on the rear quarter panels: http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...nel2-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...anel-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...rior-small.JPG While I was there I figured I should get the black seat belts http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...elts-small.JPG After that I noticed that the sun roof looked in good condition, as I mentioned earlier my sun roof is partially filled it, but I think I'm going to remove the rivets and install the sun roof. So I pulled it with the head liner. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...iner-small.JPG http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/teg/sunroof-small.JPG Then I moved on to the console parts. Some of the console is broke, I just used it for holding the small parts from the entire pull, I will not actually put it in my car. http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...sole-small.JPG Then I started on the on the dash, I wasn't able to pull it before they closed, but thats OK since there was a big crack in the dash and they wanted way to much for it. I got the gsr cluster gauge which I really wanted! http://www.latech.edu/~njt002/car/te...arts-small.JPG Now I gotta install all this stuff! Total 200 - shell 50 - obd1 converter 50 - dollars on stock struts springs to put on my Del sol, so I can do a swap. 100 - complete brakes with new rotors/pads 100 - complete gastank system and front wiper system/ air dam/ interior AC parts/ srs computer 170 - interior panels, sun roof, trunk panels, headliner, door seals, front and rear seat belts, gsr cluster Gauge, and some dash parts 30ish ac evaporator 30ish obd1 ECU / Fuel pump 23 fuel strainer filter -20 ( i bought/rent so much crap from autozone for the teg i got a free 20 dollars card) Grand total $833 Unrealistic Goal Be on the road at around 1200 (not including paint or nice wheels) To do list for parts I already have install working suspension repaint and Install wiper arms, battery holder Remove racing stickers Fill in bumper holes and reprimer... maybe just replace install obd2a ->obd1 harness and obd1 ecu remove rust from engine bay area and paint it black. clean headlights install interior parts Parts Needed/Wanted AC Condenser / Compressor a lot of interior black interior parts nice speakers shift linkage D series motor mounts(found some from old swap) maybe a rebuilt D16z6 head maybe bumpers |

Is a D in it as of now? Or nothing at all? Is this going to be a drag car or what?

Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
Looks like your getting it done, dont let anyone stop you from finishing it.

both very wrong :3 If someone makes me a good deal on a complete good working B18b motor swap.. I might jump on it. since I can make my turbo ---- swap over to that motor ok. |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
at least put a b18b in it. they hardly cost any differance than a d16z6. they handle boost much better than a d. the d rods look like peciles compared to the b-rods.

Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
drunkin master is a faggot
|
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
Put what you can...when you can..
If all you have is a D, then put it in |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
i would just drop the d in it and find a b later
|
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
Go D. be different.
BTW, most intergras in japan come with D15b's. some even come carb'd. All but the GSR's and XSi's have the D I believe. looks like a fun project none the less... |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
Keep at it, going to be fun...
BTW, "Next, I went to the boneyand scrapped some 91 gsr brakes. Nobody was 100% this swap would work, but it seems it does." There was no 91 GSR. Those are 92's. |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
updated: installed wiper motor/linkage, test fitted some of the stuff behind the dash, removed the fuel cell and started preping for the fuel tank.
now I have one massive hole in my car, i'm have decided on what I'm going to do. I might bust out the rivet gun and some sheet metal then put some type of sealeat around it. I guess I could welding since the gas tank has been removed. What are some ideas yall have? Also what is the type of that sealent that is very thick and doesnt seem to fully dry. It was around the fuel cell it probably would help me seal up the fuel pump hole since the bashed it in. Also anyone have any good ideas on filling in the rivet holes? my just put some sealent, i'm not going to spot weld 200+ rivet holes like i should. I'm open to ideas so let me know. Thanks Nick |

Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
My friend Tom has some integra parts I think. He is on SNI. I forget his screen name. I went to school with him, he is cool. You should hit him up. I think he might have a 4 door.
I think his name on SNI is hybridracer504 or something like that. |

Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
Seamsealer is what most boyshops use because its paintable, it can be purchased at your local Auto paint and body supply shop, I just picked up a tube that fits into my caulk gun, but the brush in cap would work fine.

I think his name on SNI is hybridracer504 or something like that. I looked at all the autoshops in ruston for the sealer,I'll check the paint shops tomorrow. |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up
a D in an integra... didn't someone on here have a 4 door GSR that they swapped a D16z6 into?
You're doing great on the progress, keep it up! |

Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up (updated 1-8-06)
more pics, I installed the gas tank, fuel filler hose, etc.. I also got ahold of an obd1 ecu and AC evaporator from the boneyard. The first time ever I found something on ebay that was local, I found a obd2-obd1 harness which I really needed.
I found a guy in houston with the interior, so I pretty happy about that.. it seems that a complete interior in good condition is hard to locate a couple of states. shipping is just to much for all that crap. Nick |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up (updated 1-8-06)
---- man good luck, wish I had the time you do
|
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up (updated 1-14-06) 56k = very bad idea
I just got a pile of parts from the boneyard in baker,la
I think i'm going remove the sun roof patch and install a sun roof since I was able to get a very clean looking sunroof for cheap. Another big score was the GSR cluster gauge, mine looked like someone spray painted it?! Nick |
Re: 97 GSR build, from the ground up (updated 1-14-06) 56k = very bad idea
the d is going to be working hard to pull da teg around.
