95' Turbo D15b overheating problem
Ive been searchin and havent found much help so this is my last resort before i rip off the head.
Car: 95' EG hatch, JDM D15b, T3/T4 First day with boost on this engine.... Running 8psi with only a FMU till the tune. I looked down later on in the day and temp gauge is peaking. Temp gauge was acting goofy the other day when i tried somethings and today it stopped working all together... Both Radiator hoses were sucked flat once. one time the top one was hot and the bottom one was cold... but today they both felt warm!?. overheated on the way home last night and coolant was full on arrival. took the thermostat completly out and made no difference. did a compression check and each chamber seems normal 185-195. Pressure built up within 7 strokes (not sure if that was indicating burnt rings or if that was normal.) as soon as it overheated the first time i got a CEL. 3-Map, 43-Fuel system failure, 21-vtec solenoid. had no cels prior to turbo i dont know why id get a code 3 and 43??. my vtec pops a code every now and then but since this it stays on as well... Coolant is clean. Oil is clean. Fan is hooked up direct now because since this issue it doesnt seem to turn on by itself.. im getting frustrated, compression doesnt seem to indicate headgasket. perhaps water pump? or pinhole in radiator or hose?. nothing visable at least. just seems to ironic for water pump to go out the day the turbo goes on. ive checked alot might have forgot some stuff but i need some input. any info is appreciated -thanks |
anyone??.. im bout to rip off this head tonight. unless someone tells me its the pump or something else
the pump going will sound like nuts and bolts in a coffe can, have you flushed out the radiator yet? could be clogged or some ----.
no i didnt flush it just because it seemed to be empty the first time it overheated.. just didnt think that would be it since it only had a prob after boost
when i had the problem of one hose hot and the other cold it was because it was clogged and needed to be completely cleaned out.give it a shot, its easier than taking the head off
yea ill take some time and do that before i rip off the head to make sure. i was mostly worried bout the water pump if it wasnt the gasket, but since its probably not that ill flush the coolant and if that doesnt work ill do some work. lol. thanks though
if you see the waterpump leaking coolant alittle that means its on its way out, you should hear it though when its on its last legs. take the rad completely off and flush it out both ways. hope thats your problem.
k will do. ill post up when i figure it out for archive purposes.
waterpumps arent always noisy mine had three missing blades on the fan and still never made a noise eventually it leaked water thats when i noticed it was fucked
do a pressure test on the coolant system.
Might have a blown head gasket considering that it isn't tuned yet, or you may need to bleed the system.
