95 civic rear disc swap help.
 
I have a 95 civic that im about to do a rear disc brake swap. I have been reading that using an integra M.C. and brake booster is the best thing to do along with a 3030 proportioning valve. I have the rear trailing arms from the integra with all the goodies attached for the time being. My question is, i have a guy with a 94 civic si that he is trying to part out and get rid of so i was going to grab the M.C. and booster off his. Is the 94 si stuff the same as the larger integra stuff? If you could help me out i'll appreciate it. Thanks.

You will have to look at the MC to see. it says on the side. some are smaller and some SI's have the 15/16th mc..

Do not worry about chaning the proportioning valve. Trust me on this. What size mc is in your car now? I had a 1 1/16th in mine.

They are a bitch to bleed if you dont know how to do the mc right.

all you need is a MC from a car that has rear discs, but i actually used the one from a EX and it works just fine. so yes the Si one will work just fine.

Yea i got an EX but the thing is didnt come with disc's on the back. I should have the 13/16" MC since i have drums. I was reading on hybridgarage.com that its recommened to upgrade the mc so the pedal wont feel like its going to the floor. They swapped on an integra mc with a 1" bore so its plenty bigger then what i got.

Not changing the proportioning valve is ridiculous. It's designed to divert brake fluid for drum brakes. Disc have such a smaller surface area that they need to exert more pressure to provide the same amount of stopping power.

Change both the MC and the prop valve. The SI is bigger and will work, but from personal experience the GSR MC and prop valve work best w/ the rear discs. An LS one will work, but I think it's the same as a Civic SI one, I can't remember.

Too bad you're not in Phx man, it's an easy install all around and I have this cool vaccuum pump that bleeds each corner perfectly.

WTF is that supposed to mean? If there was no need to change it, Honda would have left it alone in the first place when they started using rear discs in cars.

I've done this swap with and without the MC and prop valve. If you want it done right, use the proper parts.

I think your best bet is to use a 91 Civic EX master cylinder... it's 15/16 and bolts right up to your stock booster and brake lines.

I have read a bunch of opinions about whether or not to replace the prop valve. Some people say you need to, some say you don't. I've actually heard that the stock disk/drum prop valve directs more fluid to the rear than a 4040 integra unit because drums move more than disks. Therefore, if you upgrade to disks without changing the prop valve, the rear will get too much pressure and you are more likely to lock up the rears before the front, which could be very dangerous if it is mid turn.

I recently installed integra rear disks on my 1990 STD hatch. I also installed the 4040 prop valve and just yesterday upgraded from the stock MC to a 89 Prelude 15/16 MC. The larger MC made a big difference in pedal travel, it is now greatly reduced and the car stops really well.

Anyways...

Oh, make sure you bench bleed your MC before installing it so it doesn't take forever to bleed the system afterwards. I rigged up a bench bleeding system from some tubing I had lying around, worked great!

I say the same thing!! A larger MC is a great feeling. The pedal is a little firmer, but work WAY Better. I did the same MC on my 90 hatch as well.
