91 civic code 6??

Alright i boughta 91 civic hatchback dx (multi point) to drive around for now for 350$. So i put a new tranny in it. It seems to run good but sometimes it wants to stall out and not start up for awhile. Earlier it died on me and i had to get it towed home and i took off the distributer cap because it wasnt getting spark and put it back on and it started right up? Well anyway does anyone know what could be causing this??? Also im getting a code 6 from the car does anyone know what it is?? THANKS!!

BTW: it wont go over 5500rpms??

Code 6 is coolant temp sensor.I wouldn't think it would cause stalling/dying out.You may have a distributor on its way out.Download the Honda manual and follow the procedure for testing the sensors in the distributors. You will need a multimeter.

A manual (for the 4g Civic and a few other Hondas) can be found here:
http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/workshopmanuals2.html .
The code 6 CTS is probly causing the startup problems and is definetly causing the 5500 rpm stoppage. Read here for more info (its a ZC site but its still in the d-series family, oh and The Acid Beaver definetly knows his ----):

I had the same code on my CRX (coolant temp sensor) it would cause rough and hard start up but never stalling. It has got to be your disty like said above.

Re: 91 civic code 6??

ok it was the ect sensor. The wires to the sensor were cracking and looks like they just eventually broke so thanks for your help guys. The car runs WAY better now.

It was also getting a code 9 for alittle bit but i just diconnected the battery to reset everything and it stopped.
