This thing about the EGR is wrong, it's not actually EGR they're using.
What's common is to dump boost directly from the charge pipes into the exhaust manifold, it's done to reduce the stress on the exhaust valves.
You don't need anti lag in drag racing because you can just flat shift like that.
Rally cars don't use anti lag on gear shifts, they just cut the ignition while shifting, no lifting the gas pedal and rarely clutching.
The anti lag is used when you have to lift the throttle, for example when cornering. It gives unrivalled throttle response and instant power when the throttle is applied again.

WRC cars have catalytic converters, I think they're located right at the end of the tailpipe rather than up front so they have a smaller chance of overheating. I'm not sure how long they last though.
Attached are pictures of the engine bay in a Mitsubishi EVO WRC, there you see the dump valve that vents into the exhaust manifold, and the construction of the whole thing is just a work of art.
The heat shields are properly done, none of that gay wrapping (which wouldn't survive in a rally car anyway)
You'll notice how big the compressor housing is and how small the inlet of it is, and the FIA mandated restrictor bolted on the inlet.
