89 mph speeding ticket... (UPDATED)

Went on a road trip to Pullman (Washington State University) this week and before I even started the trip I got a ------- speeding ticket. He wrote the ticket for 89 mph in a 70 mph zone and it was $153. The gay part about it was that an aircraft cop flying around caught me and a stupid motorcycle cop pulled me over. The motorcycle cop didn't see ----, but he said the aircraft caught me going 90 mph for a little while a few miles back. It was cloudy, rainy, and I didn't see or hear any helicopters or airplanes so I think they made it all up.

If any of you have any stories or comments about aircraft speeding tickets let me hear them because I need some ammo to fight this ------- gay ass ticket. I know there has to be a way out of it. This happened to a friend of mine and he got it dropped because the aircraft pilot didn't show up so I will try and do something like that and have the court date moved a few times.

hey dude, that sucks ass. they've gotten me before going over to pullman. anyway, on the back of the ticket, there is three boxes you can check. check the one that says contest. it will give you an oportunity to explain to the judge what happened. most likely, there is no proof that you were speeding, and the case will be dropped like your freinds did. at the very least, contesting the ticket will give you some time before you have to pay up... which probably won't happen. just take it to court and use your silver tounge.

that sucks dude, i got a bulllshit exhibition of acceleration ticket a few months back and they wanted to charge me like $90 for the court date and fees to fight it so make sure it's worth it first cuz they'll charge you up the ass everytime you move your date or go back to court.

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...

that blows man ,if you say you didn't hear or see anything and it being cloudy and so fourth. I doubt the pilot would show up and if he did i would say i want some proof to show how fast i was going. Im happy the cops aren't that ---- around here ,hope ya beat it. ;)

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...

theres a way to get around it if they slipped. if the officer(ask 1 of the lawyers that send you ---- in the mail to make sure, i just went to driving school for a $185 speeding ticket and they told me something like that) who pulled you over put his nane on the ticket then they throw it out.

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...

that sucks, but it could be worse. i got a 66 in a 40 a while back and the cop postponed the court date from august to october. i tried talking to him bc im in florida now for school to see if it could be moved to dec or the begining of january and he said no, thats his vacation time and doesnt get paid ot for court appearances. so now i have two choices, get a lawyer to go instead which will cost a lot, or plead guilty which will cost a lot. oh and the ticket was back home in ny

Sorry to hear Pat, I got one coming out of Quincy, nice flat roads to wentachee. I was bombing in my dads mini-van doing 89mph in a 70 as well. I had my radar dector on and everything. I came up slightly over the hill, and I could see in the far far distance some cops on the side of the road had pulled some people over, So I slowed way down, (plenty of time) Passed the cops at 70mph, and 1 jumped behind me, I'm like ok wtf is going on..... he followed me for a good 2 miles and finally pulled me over. Said a airplane radared me 5 miles back doing 89. I about ---- my pants. I ended up just paying the fucker, I dont have time to drive over to eastern wash to fight tickets. heh.

Yeah, one of my friends was caught going 90+ by a plane... Then, when the officer was writing the ticket, my friend heard another cop say were pulling over the red integra, and following the accord.(two other friends) All 3 got tickets... wierd :-X

If there was more than one car on the road at the time ask them to prove it was you that was speeding and not the other guy. If they can't prove it was you they will throw it out. I had a friend of mine beat a ticket like that once. He was on I95 in traffic running about 70 in a 55, when he went to court he asked the cop how many other cars were in his radar beam at the time(rush hour on a major freeway), he got off.

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...

when you go to court, ask to see the records of the radar gun that they clocked you with to see when the last time it was calibrated. Most likely they have no clue which gun it was and if they do then the records are out dated or they have no time to look for them and they will drop the case. Also, when you are pulled over, ask to see the radar gun and the number visible on the display that they clocked you at. If he erased it then there is no proof. Always go to court and try to fight it though.

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...

Thanks for all the info guys. Yeah I am definitely going to court and fighting this thing. I am going to talk with my attorneys pretty soon about another matter so I will see what they can do about this speeding ticket as well.

If I just wasn't paying attention and a cop on the side of the road got me then I wouldn't be so pissed off. I have ------- eagle eyes when I am driving though and I have driven that road a million times so I know every little spot where they can hide and I always slow down. I didn't see a damn thing though so everything that cop was telling me had to be bull poop.

Re:89 mph speeding ticket...(UPDATED)

I had my contested hearing today and basically the judge said ---- off you were speeding. I knew the judge already from another no seat belt ticket or something and he is a dick. I got the ticket dropped from $153 to $110, but that aint ----. I just hope my insurance doesn't go up too much. I could appeal and get a lawyer, but I don't know if I want to deal with all that just for a speeding ticket. If I ever get another one I am going straight to a good traffic lawyer instead of going in there with my thumb up my ass. >:(

Re:89 mph speeding ticket... (UPDATED)

You know.... that sucks I had the same problem once but with an accident ticket. Anyways You dont need a lawyer you should be able to appeal. In the court I went to you had to speak with the district attorney and we negotiated something.... I'm sure you could probably attemtp the same.

I had a dickhead for a judge though.

But here the fucked up part. i got home a 12 oclock and went to bed. he issued the ticket at 3 oclock am in the morning. My car was parked by my drive way and i was alseep when he gave me the ticket. I called them and asked what was about and they gave me some bullshit answer cuz i didnt' update my tags. i didnt know they follow you to your house to see if its update.

Fight that ticket man

Re:89 mph speeding ticket... (UPDATED)

When clocking cars by air the helicopter or airplane acually dont use radar or laser since they are above you and the radar measures the speed at which you are getting closer or farther away. So if your directly below them itll show 0mph. So instead they use those big white cross markers painted on the street to time how long it takes to go between marks. If there isnt marks there is no way he got your spped from the air accuarately.

Even if he did have a gun, the gun measures RELATIVE speed, the difference between you nad the aircraft, hows that accurate if hes moving.

last i heard police planes can't clock you in washington anymore. as of like 12-18 months ago i heard that. they where deemd inacurate. <-- or however you spell it. just do the whole supena papers adn stuff. its worth it if one thing doesn't show up its thrown out. i have not been hit by a plane yet but plenty of roadhogs.

IM surprised about that. Have you taken defensive driving already. Or you can like some kind of probation that last about 180 day and if you dont get a ticket within the time your ticket is dropped. But im in texas though :P Another way is to delay the court date and hope the cop does not show up. There is also a club called the national motor club and they also supposedly help you with your tickets you get after you join. Hope i helped :D

The cops don't have to show up unless I subphoena them. They just sent in a signed statement.

sorry about the misshap beerbong... sucks my left nut/

I hope you get this sh!t resolve man. points on your record sucks. In california, if the cop doesnt show up the just drop the ticket if you contest...

Lots of peeps above have some good suggestions... Use your best judgement. Besides how many points do you have now anyways?

Re:89 mph speeding ticket... (UPDATED)

My record is as clean as the olsen twins right now, but I figure once my car is turbocharged the chance of me getting a ticket will be a lot higher. I usually keep her at about 5 mph over the speed limit on the freeway since that last ticket I got. I have had 3 speeding tickets since I started driving and they were all on the freeway. I have been pulled over more time than you can shake a stick at in town, but I always talked my way out of it.

Well it's too easy for cops to just right a ticket and ---- me out of money so I don't mind going to court and making everybody do paper work. I probably will just end up paying the fine, but if I subphoena those cops it would take time out of there day and they would be losing money. I like being a pain in the ass and making it harder for everybody... maybe next time they will let me go instead of writing a ticket.

i agree., make em work to meet that damn quota! I had gotten pulled over, on may 27, ,2003. the cop told me i was doing 60km/h in a 40 zone. Excuse me sir, this is a 50km/h zone. let me go check.. ya it is, here's your 10km/h over ticket, what an ass! Upon inspection he dated the ticket Jan 27, 2003, what a dumb ass. By law the officier has 7 days to hand in the ticket, well, he's 4 months late, got off of that one, which i should have never been stopped in the first place.

You speed out on the roads, you bleed outta the pockets.

I've pretty much accepted that I'll most likely get caught any time I speed. Therefore I have no sympathy for others who speed. Suck it up, either way, you got caught breaking the law. http://www.importmix.com/mb/images/smilies/redface.gif

And if the real reason you're pissed is because you think you were written up for going faster than you really were...well...everyone has to deal with fucker cops. You're not the only one.

I am pissed because I got a ticket from an airplane cop that I never saw or heard. If I would have flown by a cop sitting in his car that caught me on radar I wouldn't be bitching about it.

It just seems the law enforcement succeeded in the whole point in having air traffic control. To be unseen, and cover more ground. *shrug*
