Don't tell me you were running straight water for coolant? LOL.

You've probably popped a headgasket, if the water pump didn't tweak itself and allow the engine to jump time.

Uh...

Firstly, the EW series of engine is very much interference. They are famous for breaking cams in two when a piston shoves a valve against it. Second, the EW series of engine came in the 84-87 Civics, and are the predecessor to the D-series; the 86-87 Si's EW3 was also called D15A3 in those years. What old boy as in an A18.

Yeah, the valvecovers are clone units of similar design, both bearing the 12v logo. If you ever have a chance to compare them, though, you'll see the A-series is noticeably larger.

A-series is on my list of "to build" engines, can't beat cast iron closed deck blocks. There is a bolt together fangle for mating one to an 86-89 Integra transmission, which leaves a driver's mount and a halfshaft mount to be constructed. Killer for the earlier cars, eh?

i never tried to make my 87 Si fast, it was fun to drive as is and the 12v sound is quite unique, i swear it felt faster than my 90 Si,
i am really mad that i sold it, i replaced all the plastics front to back and it had NO rust.

my plan was to run it in rally-x 2wd stock class, i would have been against old beetles, ghias, FX16s, escort GTs, etc.

why not just make an adapter to mate it to a Si trans?? then all you'd have to do is make a timing side mount

The D16A1/EW bellhousing pattern is narrower than the later D-series. I could be entirely wrong, but it's more than just adapter plate, you might run into problems with flywheel/clutch. A plate and flywheel spacer might take care of that, but it's be hanging awful far off the last main journal of the crankshaft. You not only have to run an adapter thick enough to securely mate engine and trans, but allow for how the flywheel is supposed to tuck against the block and be slightly shrouded by the engine side of the bellhousing pattern.

i was speaking of the MK1 Si, even so instead using the stock bellhousing cut it down enough so you can put an adapter on it and it still be stock distance from the engine. is there even enough material on the case to do that??
