70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
So what happens when your sick of lookin at your dull white car with scratches all over?? you get creative and daring... I figured I would try it on the hood and it looked good no streaks, so i did the whole car. took 2 hours to water sand the whole car, then another two to tape it, and one hour of careful finger crampin can shooting i had a brand new car with not a spot o rust on it ;D

That actually looks pretty damn good. Wanna paint mine? lol
I've been putting of a paint job for a few years now. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get it done. Nice to see that a "decent" paint job doesn't have to cost a mint. |

Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
actually a few of my buddies have asked me to paint their cars too, but it takes a while, and any one with half a sense on how to use a spray can can do it them selves! im just going to keep it like this for winter cuz the fkin roads in quebec are dooooggg ----.

Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
"can shooting" as in spray cans? man that looks awesome. i did mine in flat black and it looks pretty bad in the sun light. im gonna redo it once its sunny and warm out again...too cold in my garage. but yours turned out great.

Ya sorry bout the double post, i fked up my mod.... Ne way, this color kicks ass too cuz in the shade, its blatant flat gray, but when the sun hits it, its almost white. it stands out and gets your attention without being flashy... seriously, i wouldnt be supprised if this starts a new trend for sleeper cars....

Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
excellent can control, but i dont see this setting any trends.
for 70 dollars i can buy some one step paint from absap and spray it the right way. |
Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*

1 step as in you dont clear it, it has clear mixed in.
you still need to prep the car |
Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
Hmmm.Primer Absorbs water, water freezes inside the primer and cracks it, not to mention it will help rust the hsit out of any place that had exposed metal, wait a year, your car will look like ----. but good job I guess, you should of at least painted it with paint and then a coat of clear or dull coat to seal the finish.

Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
ive never seen that happen. musta been some shitty paint
|
Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
The normal thing to do with dull scratched paint is to polish out as much of the defects as reasonable and add a proper protectant, than continue to maintain the new finish. Better ------- it up on your car than someone else's, I suppose. ???

Hotrex, your talking about single stage paint i bet. I've used it on my del sol, turned out nice, overall i'll stick to the dual stage color/clear.

its not that hard to spray with primer and do a semi-decent job... single stage paint isnt much harder either
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/549284/3 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/549284/4 two of my car's that i've primered so they were one color instead of god knows how many :o here's some pics of a buddys car i painted with single stage and btw that paint job was done over 5 months ago and still looks great except for the scratch the dumbass put in it.. was done with a $40 gun, and a air compressor that's on its last legs, outside in less then half a day total Before Attachment 36939 After |

Prep and proper mixing is Key. My dad's Classic was done in a Poly Single Stage and it is tough as nails.
But ya, nothing compares to a Base/Clear Setup. But back to what you worked with and the reason of the post, That looks nice!! |
Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
Ive painted a whole car before with spray paint but when ur done your finger hurts like a bitch from the nozzle. I did my own rims though. primer/base/tons of clear...all spray paint

I painted my whole care with rustoleum from Home Depot, a can vouche for the pain in the ol' index finger when you finish! Heres a picture that kind of shows the reflection quality in the door.
NOTE: I WOULD NEVER... I REPEAT NEVER PUT SPOKES ON MY CAR!!!! My younger brother did this one day while I was out of town, he took the wheels from a cousin of ours, and he thought it would be funny if he picked me up at the airport with my car "beaner-ized" thank got the wheels didnt clear the brakes!!! Attachment 36935 Not a great pic, but its all i have saved on my computer, i figure its not bad for rattle can and a little buffing |
Re: 70$ paint job! (7 cans of primer and lots of time at work....)*Pics*
