Random-Strike: i was thinking about swtiching over to distributed dot net, can winup to $1K on that, but you really need a group to make any headway.

UberTeg: SETI@Home records sounds from a radio telescope, and then release that packet out to several users. each users runs thier program, and it searches for triplets (three spikes in the same area) and gausens (sp?) which indicates a strong signal from one point in space, and not a strong signal from a broader area of space (noise).

BLACKSI (AKA Beau): a packet is one recording from any given point in space. when i started SETI@Home (like 3.75 years ago) they where about a year behind (when a packet was recorded vs when is was being processed), any now we are within a month of recording vs process. they are even having some of the faster users reprocess older packets that had possiblity, and run them through the new codes.
