Where I come from you have to pass your driving license driving a stick....
In europe that is also the case.
My gurl drive a manual flawlessly.
I was driving since I was 11 so it was no big deal for me....I learned to drive on a manual and I've only driven a few automatic's in my life....

Yeah, I'm in Iceland.
There are still some people here who can't drive a manual, mostly because they got their license like 20 years ago and have only owned automatics since then.

been there done that with the whole gf + 5 spdd thing...

my gf doesn't seem to understand the whole part of when you disengage the clutch when you come to a stop thing

im like, it is ------' simple, com'on.

she is like im good at this, im like *uh-huh*

i also tried to start with explaining how the cluthc works and rpms...

I tested my girl for driving before I let her borrow my car, she passed, and now borrows my cars whenever.

TEST number 1 (beyond basic driving).

in a long parking lot, parked nose in, back up and do a 90 degree back in, in the spot of my choice, 5-6 spots over.

Basically it made her concentrate on a lot at once, going backwards( hard enough for some), feathering the clutch to not go to fast, and the back in. After like 10 of those, she was doing quite well and gaining confidence.

Test #2

left foot driving, no brake & no gas.
(The best way to know your car is experience, and feeling the sweet spot of the clutch makes it very natural).

Same parking lot (best to use one with no curbs).

Start backed in to a spot, shift into first and without using your right foot, slowly let of the clutch and feather it right at the sweet spot to get the car moving forward. Without gas or brake, this will teach ultimate control of the clutch--> while moving towards the spot across the parking lot, shift into reverse and stop the car and start going backwards using only the clutch. feathering it to keep it from dying, and slowly stopping then speeding up in reverse. Next you'll shift back into 1st, feather to stop and move forward and repeat until around 10 repetitions with no stalling.

I know it's not the best for our clutches, but at idle it's not doing a lot of damage, so deal with it. It's a great way to feel the engagement point and to control it, leading to smoothing driving and happy cars/passengers.

I let my girl drive my car the other day...never again! Every little thing bothers me about the way she drive my car. Like the head bucking, stalling, and the look on her face like shes trying so damn hard. Scares me. I also hate the way she "Muscles" the shifter into gear. She can learn on a different car.

Thats how i learned with a manual...Dont teach em about Rpm's and ---- (not unless they care)...Just tell them when they need to shift. I taught my girl the same way. She isnt perfect at it because she never really drives it but if i needed her to i would be okay with it.

I just tell her 20mph per gear and shift to 5th on the highway once you reach speed. If you need to go faster during acceleration, then do 30mph per gear (DX tranny). Works well for her.

Haha, I made that mistake of trying to teach a chick how to drive my Integra. She didn't do too bad at first, but then she managed to grind the hell out of it into second and I think I started making a wierd face orsomething because she told me she'd rather learn in a POS car than my nice Integra. Needless to say I agreed after that

i think everyones been there...

but ---- one time i taught some chicks how to ride a dirtbike, o my god. one ran into a ------- bush top speed in first gear, engine just ------- ROARING.

next one did a wheelie and flipped on her back..

overall women are not good with anything that has a clutch.

i taught two girls how to drive stick... test #2 is so key....my sister on the other hand beat the ---- out of my bimmer before she got it out of the parking lot.....it's funny they need people to teach them and i stole my old sisters civic and taught myself in one night :P
