Haha honda blows too, bottom line is if i wanted a car that had a walk-away crank i d buy a 1st gen 4g63, and yeah DSM nutriders are just as back. so STFU

And how exactly am I a DSM nutrider? I own one bitch, 4g63T owns your piece of ----. FYI, the 2nd gen 7-bolt bottom ends are the ones with the major crankwalk issues, not the 1st gen 6-bolts. Josh said it right...---- Honda.

im not gonna be a honda fanyboy but the fact of the matter is, the only thing a DSM has on a honda is the fact that its AWD. hondas are better in every other aspect. you say a DSM can make XXX power on the stock motor, thats great and all except a honda will be faster with XXX LESS power anyways so who cares?

DSM's are fun and if they werent such money pits id probably rock one.

Not all are awd and ever heard of a civic wagon awd?My fwd dsm runs low 14's with $300 in mods and full interior.Stock longblock and AUTOMATIC.Do that in a $300 in mods honda crx or civic.

the ones that arent AWD are useless, and the hondas that are AWD are useless. when was the last time you saw a honda AWD drivetrain that was any good? 90/10 split FTW :1

show me a honda that has a turbo from the factory? $300 could get you a budget *** turbo kit, and the car could run low 14's.

I like the 4g63 it's up there on the list of engines I'd actually feel comfortable pushing 300+ on daily without a full build. DSM are tricky, and trickier them alot of other vehicles ... but there is alot of support for them and if you know what you are doing then reliability isn't an issue. If you drive hard get the 4 gear spiders

okay guys.. i've owned 3 Rotaries in my life time.. so i can give you a good ideal how they work

1st one.. my baby gave it 75k miles in my lifetime. had 120k miles when i bought it. Lived trhough hell but i took care of it. great car.
2nd one had it for about 1 month ran solid. then was stolen. can't say anything bad about reliability.
3rd one had a puslation damper problem which leaked fuel on top of the manifolds. (the first one had that problem too but i fixed it.) i fixed that problem in this car as well and it still caught on fire..

so 1 very good rx7. 1 Very bad Rx7, 1 Not long enough kept to know if it was good.

just for the reliability portion of course.

I'm sorry, but after reading this post, I had to register and post a comment or two....

reliability....this is a tricky subject, if all the maintence is done properly, it is extremely reliable, had a 200k 1990 dsm that was a great runner until I decieded to work on it. Almost all of the CRITICAL MAINTENCE on DSMs is complicated ----, and all will backfire if you try to "duck-tape" fix it.

timing belts never slip, the tensioner has 2 bolts, if torqued improperly the tensioner will come loose and skip goes the belt! Smack! goes the valves!

6-bolt/7-bolt...by now every 7-bolt that was manufactured improperly has already crank walked and has either been rebuilt properly or replaced with the 6-bolt.

they started putting 7-bolts in cars in 92.5 so not all 1Gs have 6 bolts in them (but my 94 does, I put it in)

AWD transmissions always go out, because people beat the ---- out of them, and guess what? after 150k miles they wear out and need a costly rebuild ~$1300

The honda platform is good, lightweight consumer daily driver, low HP - never wears out car
The DSM platform is an enthusiasts car, AWD drivetrains are a dream(but wear out), and the 4g63 is probably one of the best engines to throw tons of boost at ever, the ECU deals with knock very well, and the 7.8:1 compression makes it almost impossible to throw a rod.

If you build up a B18 with forged internals, then great, you have a monster.

But on a budget, I would bet that I could build a much faster DSM then a honda.

and finally, I have a daily driver DSM (~275awhp) and a project DSM (~ 500AWHP)

both are in great shape, both over 100k, and the only time I was left on the side of the road from a DSM was when I blew out the head gasket because of a bad injector connector (I used a plyers and broke it, and then put the broken connector back on, it came loose and the lean mixture killed the headgasket)
