45" Glasspack on my civic

:o 45 inches, what's she gonna do with that.

I figure I want a quiet exhaust, after 2 years of not be able to drive it without the silencer in, I figure I might as well just make a new quiet exhaust.

It's going on my 89 hb, and yes it's 2.5" and 45" long. It's one of those cheap glasspacks from dynomax, but for $36, and yes it fits perfectly between my cat and the first bend, and then I'm putting on a 2.5" 90' bend and straight out the side in front of the passenger wheel well. That way I can use my rear sway bar as well (current exhaust is in the way). I figure 45 " should be able to quiet my little NA D15 should be pretty quiet then. Plus it will probably flowbetter then my 2.5" crush bent wonder that is currently flowing for me.

Any thoughts?

I wanna know what it sounds like. I hate the battle of having big pipes vs. rice noise.

its probably going to sound like a wet fart. i busted the exhaust on my escort rally car (lol) so i put 2 glass packs on it, one right after the other and it was still loud and it sounded horrible. good luck, let me know how it works out.

i have 3 inch from down pipe to a 30 inch glasspack muffler, nothing in between. It sounds very ratty but about half as loud as an open downpipe. At idle it sounds nice and when you floor it gets very loud but cleaner than a open down pipe. So, it will be alot quieter at idle thang an open pipe and is loud but never raspy it has a very deep sound when driving normal. Its great becuse the muffler is like 25 bucks.

ok 3" diameter 30" after turbo equals loud but not raspy, thats good.

I've got a 2.5" Hi-flo cat that actually quieted my system when I put it on.

So 2.5" cat --> 2.5" diameter 45" glasspack --> 90' bend and out should equal quieter. I'm thinking of reducing the size to 2.25" after the cat for better sound reduction, but I can't get that long of a glasspack in 2.25". I think I'll try it, and if it doesn't work, at least we'll know, and it's only like $36 so no big loss.

my car got very quiet once i put the turbo on with a 2 1/2 exhaust. nobody even hears me coming. my neighbors even thanked me, i guess they thought i did it because they always bitched about it being to loud.

Ok, I checked the tracking # and it will be there when I get home from class. I'm gonna cut my exhaust, and plug this thing in, see how she sounds. If it's ok, I'll go with just that, otherwise I'm gonna put it inline with my current exhaust, just so it's really quiet.

keep us posted. i was thinking of getting rid of my greddy evo (2.25) and doing the same thing, but running the pipe out the back like stock. it's currently quiet like stock after putting on the turbo so a little more noise won't hurt.

my guess is it will make it less raspy and deep, but wont actually lower the volume more than say a 30" one..

Very nice i would do this if my car wasn't a mid engine ,but i love my car. I think it would be quiet as long as it doesn't sound ricey but hey go for it. Let us know ;)
