or at least thats what i'm shooting for after my build and turbo is done. I'm going to do pistons, rods and new valve seals on my b16a and i just want to make sure I have everthing I need before going into it.
Please let me know if anything is missing from this list Eagle H beam rods pressed with Wiseco 81mm std bore pistons ball hone assembly lube top end gasket kit (everything for valve seals) oil pan gasket oil filter oil coolant bearings I need to know what kind of bearings i should get as well.... Thanks |

get the color codes from your crank journals and order the appropriate bearings from slhondaparts.com or hondaautomotiveparts.com |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
what do you mean color codes? do i have to actually look at the crank to find them or is it a general thing

when you mic out the crank and rods, and get your measurements, honda bearings are color coded for thickness, you can just order the correspondint code of bearing to the sizes you need. ACL's tend to come in a "one size fits all" sort of size. these are color code stamps http://www.evans-tuning.com/pics/gsr/gsr%2011.jpg and here are the corresponding colors http://www.evans-tuning.com/pics/gsr/gsr%2012.jpg I dunno if these numbers match they are from a GS-R but they might be the same Main Bearing thickness by color Blue 2.013-2.010 mm 0.0793”- 0.0791” Black 2.010-2.007 mm 0.0791”- 0.0790” Brown 2.007-2.004 mm 0.0790”- 0.0789” Green 2.004-2.001 mm 0.0789”- 0.0788” Yellow 2.001-1.998 mm 0.0788”- 0.0787” Pink 1.998-1.995 mm 0.0787”- 0.0785” Red 1.995-1.992 mm 0.0785”- 0.0783” Rod bearing thickness by color Blue 1.510-1.507 mm 0.0594”- 0.0593” Black 1.507-1.504 mm 0.0593”- 0.0592” Brown 1.504-1.501 mm 0.0592”- 0.0591” Green 1.501-1.498 mm 0.0591”- 0.0590” Yellow 1.498-1.495 mm 0.0590”- 0.0589” Pink 1.495-1.492 mm 0.0589”- 0.0587” Red 1.492-1.489 mm 0.0587”- 0.0586” |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
I think I'm going to go with the ACL bearings..... whats the diffrence between the race ones and standard? should i go with race?
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
aww then that means fook did all that for nothing lol
sorry fook, thanks for helping though little fella |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
you're a poster child for the effectiveness of advertising.
"it says race in it, so it must be better!" the race bearings are for race motors, ones that get torn down and rebuilt quite often. just go with oem. |

Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
I'd just go with the ACL, they're probably much cheaper. The Race bearings are probably larger tolerances. I'll say it this way... Sloppy stuff makes Power! Go with the OEM if you don't want to tear her down for a little while ;)

WEAK SAUCE MAN!! Why build a motor if your not going to do it right ? Honda engines have some of the tightest clearences for a reason. if you go and just "get some barings" Your engine will not last long. especially if your boosting it. Fook is right, better do it the hard way so you dont have to do it twice. |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
hondas run tight clearences so they will last 300,000 miles

Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
Sounds like quite a motor for 333 hp. You can do that with no problem with stock motor. With the rod and piston combo you're doing 450+ shouldn't be a problem.

Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
why not just 300+ whp??haha why 333 ;D
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
Im not gonna get into the oem vs aftermarket debate but on my buddy's rebuild we plastigauged all the clearences when he installed his aftermarket barings and they came in well with in spec.. just to throw that out there

Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
fyi: youre pistons will most likely have floating pins, not press-fit
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
Fook, good attempt. It seems no matter how many times this color code thing is explained, the noobs never learn until they want to know.
If you can make a complete write up on how to do the color code ----, I'll put it up on my site and archive it. It's info I would love to have up there so I don't have to read about it anymore. I'll work something out with you on a gift certificate or something. Lemme know. ;) |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
fyi: all acl's are the size of honda greens, and i wanna say the race version of acl bearings are lacking some sort of coating that the regular bearings get.

Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
It's the damn clearances that matter. When will people give up on a trying to find a company to make bearings just drop in and run forever?
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
it seems like on most occasions the clearences are within spec.
about .002 is ideal from what i've read in that thread |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
450whp on stock sleeves??? whats is the limit on stock sleeves?
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
Have seen some dynosheet with 500 + on stock sleeves
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
this thing will never see tghe street, pipe dreams,
dan i sY IT LASTs less tyhan 10 miles. |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
i agree that we need a write up on doing bearing clearances. and where can i find the plastic thing that measures the clearance. i know that you slip it in then torque to like 45 foot pounds then pull it out and use the reading, but aside from that, thats all.
|
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
unless you want to go over 800hp dont even bother changing them
400 hp is childs play for the oem ones |
Re: 333+ whp B16a Coupe stock sleeves
oem bearings own, period. and as far as stock sleeves, plenty of 500whp with stock sleeves that have lasted over a year. 300whp is stock block material. if you've got pistons/rods in a b series, i'd shoot for a minimum of 400 on pump gas. so what happens if your acl's are too tight, pay to get the crank machined? what about if they're too loose? take an ass raping and pay for more bearings? btw, plastigauge blows balls, precision tools own you, but it's better than nothing i guess :-\
