Re: 3000gt

LOL they are worse than and Eclipse. They break a lot and hard hard to work on.

Re: 3000gt

about when do they blow?? like how many miles do they get out of them?

Re: 3000gt

fuckloads of potential if you are willing to deal with the quircks and dont mind pulling the engine to do anything. The way to go is buy a sl or gt and go big single. My dad has one and its fast but it has spent more time broken than running... :S

not anymore than a damn Honda Civic around here :-X

Re: 3000gt

and the turbos are all old so they like to go and replacements are bout 1200 for 2 new stock tdo4's but with a lil searching you can do your own hybrids for fairly cheap or go big single using the stock sl manifolds.. and as far as miles it just depends on how hard it was ragged on my dad bought his for 3k the guy didnt know a vr4 was so he had it listed as a sl all it needed was new tires and it was good to go.

na 1500 is about right for pulling the engine on that bitch. i dont think you could do it with the motor still in the car.

89shithatch 03-20-2006 03:28 PM

Re: 3000gt

just a newb q. My clucth is going on my civic 898 hatch. How hard is it to pop a new clucth in there?

Re: 3000gt

not very hard at all. but an awd v6 with 2 turbos and having a sideways engine would be a pain in the ass :P

Re: 3000gt

well my dad used to have a 94 SL 3000gt pretty nice car, not the fastest thing in the world like low 15s high 14's im guessing, but a VR4 spyder would be nice :6

tekno9998 03-20-2006 06:30 PM

Re: 3000gt

The trannys are actually pretty stout its just usually the guys that kill them cant drive :3

Re: 3000gt

My buddy has this 3000gt:

http://myspace-370.vo.llnwd.net/0058...82916370_l.jpg

He wants to use the parts from the twin turbo vr4 on it, I was thinking we could go that and use a S-AFC... my question is, him being automatic and NA, would it be okay to run say 8 psi on the stock turbo's or is that too much for the engine and transmission?

Re: 3000gt

I drove one of the VR-4's and was impressed. Not too fond of the body style but it is okay. that has one crazy automatic wing, the only one of it's kind that I know of.

plenty of cars have similar wings...porches, crossfires, etc. I had a vr4 for a while, it was nice but i wasnt crazy about the size/style

Re: 3000gt

I like the looks of them though

tekno9998 03-20-2006 07:25 PM

Re: 3000gt

sinsister all he needs to do is plug in the vr4 ecu and hes good to go. And as far as the engine its really stout if he wanted to make very high hp all he would have to do is swap in some vr4 pistons they are lower compression. But plenty of people go big single or twin on there nonturbos and run tens and elevens all day fairly easily..

HondaTuner 03-20-2006 07:30 PM

Re: 3000gt

Even with being auto, he's fine?

vxcoastie 03-20-2006 08:31 PM

Re: 3000gt

What I meant was that while you are increasing speed and reach 35, front of wing automatically reangles itself downwards and stays that way above 35. When you are slowing down and reach 45 mph, the wing again readjusts itself and goes back to original position. What I liked doing when I was playing around was pull in front of a friend and play with the switch on the console in manual mode and make the wing "wave" at them and accelerated away... Kinda cool, I don't really like the design, just the way the wing functions. :S

i knew what you were talking about, i had one. all i meant was that its not the only car with "active aero" stuff

if you scroll down untill you can only see half on the passenger mirror that black car kinda looks like a corvette....doesnt it?.................oh yea and those SL mite as well stand for slow......and anyway they are stupid......but i did drive a stealth that was nice all wheel twin turbo....on 15 pounds.....dude let me take it out without him and i didnt even know him...hah it was sweet though........if u have the money get a stealth i think the minor differences are worth it

Re: 3000gt

even the n/a stealth/3000gt's are fast.... they aint slow :l

and sininster. that tranny already being as fucked as it is. i dont think ittl be able to take that load :l

even 8psi will give you considerable gains in hp and tq and will be hella plenty to shatter the tranny.. the cars a ------- tank.. weight wise. not durability/reliability wise :1

HondaTuner 03-20-2006 09:51 PM

Re: 3000gt

How is it "fucked as is" ? ???

buk9tp 03-20-2006 09:57 PM

Re: 3000gt

as in like its already being pushed to the max already being dogged.. if u ever drive one youll know what i mean.. hard to explain :8 it feels as if your going to break the tranny everytime you floor it :1

and the vr4 trannys are getrag trannys which are basically built like tanks.. i.e. take a fiero with a getrag tranny and bolt up a v8 to it and ittl have no problem taking the high hp and tourque for many thousands of miles of rape....

I'm just wondering how much power we can push through it period. It seems to work fine for him, car sounds awesome, never rode in it though.

Yea...well, I'm the guy that has the 3000 that 89shithatch mentioned... That clutch was fried, however, the previous owner had to learn stick on that car, as well as me. So if you consider the hell that poor thing had to go through, im not necessarily disappointed it fried...i kinda saw it commin.

But its all payed off now, and workin great... I kinda want to puit a cat-back on it but the cheapest i could find online is Borla (799.99) infact, thats about the only one i can find, does anyone else know where i might be able to find a better/cheaper one? I've been told to go to a local exhuast place (Pual's Bender Center) and ask them to make the piping for it and then buy 2 mufflers on it.. i dont know how well that wouold work, but i really just dont know too much about it, can anyone help me out?

and we make pizzas for a living. 7/hr will take a while for an 800.00 exhaust.

Re: 3000gt

I might just go to emissions before i get it though, so i shouldn't have to worry about that
