2000 si eats dick, help please

alright, my car was giving me serious ignition problems lately. i replaced the cap, rotor, ignitior, plugs, ignition coil.

all were oem parts.
but anyways
the car was fine for about 2 months not one problem at all. but lately its been doing the same ---- again. usually after 5000 rpms. well last night the fucker was redlining, yes redlining at 5500 rpms. wouldn't go anything past there at all.

i checked fuel and air, its fine. i also checked for spark and it did have some.

the car has some ---- ass apc wires because thats all they had when i got them. could that be that cause.

is this a symptom of a distributor gone bad, or am i dealing with some electrical bs.

ps
b16a2 motor and tranny for sale lol

I have seen this type of problem before, inside of the distributor their are little magnetic pickups and tone wheels that tell injector pulse/and TDC postion. If the clearence between the pickup and the sensor are not within spec the car will do as you describe..

I had a customer who had a 94 civic, and his car died.. the shop said it needed a new distributor.. After he got the car back, he noticed he could not rev it past 4500rpms... took it back to the shop and they told the kid it was his aftermarket intake.. Well he brang it to me to check it out. I noticed their was a "REMAN" distributor on the car.. I took it apart and found the clearences on all the points way out of spec. I dont remeber what spec was, but it was something like .20mm or so.. and the size on his distributor was as thick as a nickle!!

So, Ask your buddies or anyone you know that has a known working distributor and just use it to test your car to see if it fixes the problem..

Good luck,
Jeff Frank

I have a 97 Civic Ex, soon to be Turbocharged, and the last time I took it to my local shop, the guy tune it up and installed an adjustable Cam Gear. After all his work my car was redlining at 5000rpm, when it usually goes to 7500rpm's, He adjusted the distributor, advanced the timing a little, then he got in the car with it running and it did the same thing, after that he reved it up to 5000 then turned off and back on the car, without letting the rpm's go down, reved again and that solved the problem, it revs fine now. He told me it might be the distributor or my ECU, because it is stock and OBD2 it has been running with the check engine light on because of my IHE it cannot register the emisions correctly or something like that and will try to run the car in what he called a "safe mode". What he did by turning off and on the car fooled the ECU and has been running fine for a week now, but he recommended getting an OBD1 ecu or a Chipped ECU.

I dont work at a Honda dealer, so I cant give you dealer pricing.. If you still have a warranty, ---- put your car back to stock form (exactly) and take it to another freaking dealer!

No D-series distributors wont work on your b16... You will need to use a B-series OBD2 distributor.. so 96+ Del sol b16/GSR etc etc.

Re:2000 si eats dick, help please

alright.
i did a systems check last night. the car was throwing a code 92. evap systems blah blah blah. that has to do with the car not sparking.

checked the ignitor, fine, has current with the switch on. grounds are fine, there is current at the pole of the ignition coil

however when she hits that 5500 rpms wall.
there is a putter of spark, pretty much none at all and then if u keep it there long enough it SOMETIMES gets it and you hear the car rev to 8200 again.

is this the distributor?

I don't know if I can help with your problem, but the thing with the warranty bugs me. It is illegal for the dealer to void a warranty due to modifications.

Do a search on th Magnuson-Moss warranty act if you want to find out more or go to SEMA.ORG, Good luck.

Re:2000 si eats dick, help please

they didnt void it.
my clutch is slipping lately, they said between that and my fpr guages etc etc.
that the only way they would fix it or "be able to see whats wrong" is by putting the car back to stock.

i said even at a standstill it has this problem, they go yeah but we only test cars at normal driving conditions, i can tell this car is driven in some kinda nature not intended for it.

im like so what, u still have to fix it. the ------- thing has a spark problem, wtf does that have to do with fuel.

his response" i can't tell that for sure till i have it in stock form"

they wants 679 dollars to put a stock fpr and bolt on with stock clutch taht my turbo car is gonna shred through in a week.

bunch of dicks i swear

They are just doing their Job dude, I work at a dealer too, and if some kid came in with a Sentra with all kinds of ---- done to his car I would rather not work on it either. Just the fact that most warranty companies dont Pay ---- for DT or install time. Techs that work flat rate would rather be doing something else... and it really isnt worth the service advisors time either.

Put your car back in COMPLETE STOCK FORM! and go to another dealer and try..

Jeff
