Re:1990 tsi?

might not be bullshit... if the previous owner cranked it up a bit 14 lbs on the stock motor is very possible... there fast cars just um... smoke people...

0-60 6.8
1/4 mile 15.1
there good street cars because of the all whell drive. and with little mods you can make them super fast. i have an article in a mag that shows you 3 steps to get a 100 extra ponies to the wheels for cheap.

Re:1990 tsi?

i almost got one through a trade last week but it was a 94 and i don' like the body style. i have a lowrider regal with hydros that i was selling and the kid wanted it so bad, he asked me to trade his straight across but i said no. so he sold it for $3500 and bought my car. his car was insanely quick and i loved the all wheel launch ;D

I had a 1998 GST

<----- see pic

I was running 14-15psi. It was pretty fast, but 1st & 2nd gear was pretty useless :P

Re:1990 tsi?

DSM's are cool.... here are some things to watch out for:

tranny is the weak link (heavier car + lots of HP = crunch)

change timing belt every 50K, or the valves will start smacking the pistons

14B's are efficient up to 16-17 psi

never buy a 7 bolt, they get crankwalk

Thats what I was gonna tell ya. Those DSM's are heavy as ---- too, so definitely do not get the 7 bolt.

It doesn't sound like you know what your getting yourself into. I've spent the last year and more $ than i spent on the car in parts just getting the car to a reliable level. I'm not trying to sound like a dick but majority of these cars are driven hard and mechanicaly neglected. The stock "boost guage" is not a boost guage, it measures voltage off of the MAF and is no way accurate. You have some serious reading to do before you buy this car. Good luck ;)

Only way to go 8)

Is it AWD for FWD? Any questions you have about DSM's, just ask. I've helped build a few 6 bolts in my time.

Before you buy it, make sure 3rd gear synchro is ok. Also, make sure it idles well.

Come on, how come no one else jumped on the whole "Crankwalk" bandwagon. DSM's are queer in general, well they're just gay because of how cheap they can be made quick :X. If it's AWD i would worry more about your transfer case than any of this mystical "Crankwalk" bs : )

Re:1990 tsi?

ok here is the deal on the one i might buy.. new head, new timing belt, new clutch. idles well, i had it in 3rd and it shifted smooth but down shifting into 1st it grinds so that syncro must be jacked. any more info is well appreciated....

That's because people on this website are for going fast for cheap, and that's what DSM's do. 1st generation AWD TSI's 90-94 never had any crankwalk problems, crankwalk was only an issue on the 7bolt 2nd gens.

Why would you be downshifting into 1st :-x Most people don't understand that most older cars weren't meant to be able to do that!

IS IT ALL WHEEL DRIVE, OR FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!?

Re:1990 tsi?

it is AWD
