Re: 1990 laser Rs turbo

I had one.It was a 91 Laser RS Turbo FWD.Did the air can hack,3"dp.3"exhaust and turned the boost up to 16-18psi.Car ripped hard and would bury the speedo [140+mph].Trannys are ---- so buy some redline MTL and start looking for a backup. The 4G63T is a great engine and has a stout bottom end from the factory and for little dollars you can make them fly especially the FWD as they are lighter and have less drivetrain parts that you will have to replace.I did notice that car was starting to have lots of little plastic things wearing out even though it was a onw owner car that had relatively low mileage and was well maintaned.I really like it for what it was.Best part is once you upgrade parts you can sell lots of them off like injectors, turbos, blowoff valve etc.

Pick it up.

You can make ungodly power/torque with the little 4g63.

250whp/torque is easily acheived with about $50 in mods. With that you'll set aside 98% of the cars around.

250 horse in one of those aint gunna beat 98% of the cars on the road ::)

i bet 250 horse is enough to get them in the high 13, 14 flat range right

Re: 1990 laser Rs turbo

Heres my experience(i previously owned a turbo zc powered crx before getting into dsms)

Bought my first stock 91 Gs-T automatic 2 years ago with a 14b on it already then added these mods:
K&N
hacked the stock mass airflow sensor
2 1/2 mandrel downpipe with stock cat and exhaust attached(yes i know)
Ac belt delete
Autometer boost gauge read 11lbs spiking between gears and steady 9-10 holding WITHOUT a mbc

I had the car 3 weeks before i totalled it and achieved the following with the basic mods i did:
Ran 15.3@93 as my best run in the 1/4 mile
Ran 16.1@97 as my worst run without brake boost
Beat a few swapped eg's,bolt on 99-00 Si's,and a bolt on fox body and 02 bolt on Gt from roll races.

After that and about 10 dsms later and alot smarter my current awd AUTO just ran dead even with a 13.2 full bolt on Gt-P the other nite on low boost/14b and a garbage tune.I say grab it and have fun. ;)

I'll be the first one to tell you that the 4g63 cars are a chore with maintenence. But they are not shitty.

The AWD/FWD trannys are solid. Along with the rest of the drivetrain. It is all in the driver, and not being a ------- idiot.

I'm running 12's on my galants stock tranny, axles, rear end, etc... Hell it ran a 13.1 @ 106 on the stock clutch even.

The trannys can take so much power and abuse it isn't even funny. But all it takes is one dumbshit kid to bust a transmission from trying to do a 7,000rpm launch and cry about it breaking to everyone for people to think that the trannys are crappy.
